Packing It Into that Kernel
Johnny Verell talks about the applications he made to his corn crop this season with the goal of packing weight into those kernels.
00:01 Johnny Rell with Extreme Ag. I'm out here today with Jeremy Green with Stoler U S A and we're looking at some products. 00:06 We were doing trials on this year with him and kind of starting from the beginning to where we are now. 00:10 So we started out infer with fortified stimulate yield enhancer plus we also put that on at a V three V four application. 00:17 And just had Jeremy come out today to kind of help walk me through what these products were doing and what at that timing. 00:23 Yeah, so basically what we're doing, you put this out, you put fortified, stimulate yield, enhancer plus out twice. So at in furrow, um, 00:31 what we're trying to do with that product. So it's a P G R product. It's got cytokinin glic acid, and then it's got two types of oxen. 00:38 So there's an i b A and then there's an i a a oxen in it. So you've kind of got that quick burst of oxen and then you've got a, 00:44 a longer lasting, uh, type of effect with oxen. And what we're trying to do at planting is simply get that plant off to the right start. 00:52 So we're looking to get a really good fast even emergence to kinda get some good ear placement, uh, throughout the corn, um, 01:00 and really build the root system early because uh, we talk about the roots, uh, being the brains of the planet atto. 01:07 So anything we can do to enhance the root growth early is gonna be beneficial. Um, you said you come back in at V three to V four with the same product. 01:14 So we had fortified, stimulate and then I think there was also a micro pack there. That's right. Uh, called Harvest Plus. And what Harvest Plus is it? It's a, uh, 01:23 micro pack with nitrogen, sulfur, uh, zinc, manganese and boron. And we're combining it with fortified there to try to impact the rows around the 01:32 ear. We know that's largely genetic, but any stress that occurs early on in the season is gonna cause a reduction in rows around the ear. So we want to try to maximize that, uh, 01:43 when we're going across the field with that herbicide pass. And then we're just simply putting that mic, that micro pack in there, uh, 01:49 to really have that zinc. Zinc plays a role in AOX and development naturally, uh, and also having that bore on manganese and a little bit of sulfur, uh, as well. 01:59 So, uh, really it's all about building that plant early. Sure. Uh, try to maximize everything we can. We 02:04 Wanna set the rows around the length, all that and going into the fungicide application VT range when we're coming back across this, you know, 02:11 we wanted what to add more products so we added excite. Yeah. And we were trying to do the same thing, 02:15 trying to make that plant pack all it can in those Kernels. Yeah. So at vt, uh, we come across with the sugar mover premiere and excite and sugar mover. 02:23 Premiere is also a P G R product. Um, it's a bore on Molly package with cytokine in it. Uh, we added some additional excite, 02:31 so we did that because typically when we go across and we get the pollination, we're really high temperatures. That's right. 02:38 Cytokine will naturally break down in these plants. So cytokine's role is really to, uh, enhance cell division. So anything we can do to maximize that, uh, 02:47 especially when we start talking about pollination and kernel field, um, we're putting that out to try to maximize that. Um, 02:55 and you'll see maybe a little less tip back here with, with applications like that, that it's just all about maximizing, uh, pollen viability, getting 'em, uh, fertilized and then also filling these 03:05 Kernels out. Yeah. And going into pollination. To give you a backstory, going into pollination, uh, we came out here, 03:10 was looking at this same corn field and it was extremely hot. The corn was twisted, it was 110, 03:15 115 heat index and of course we ended up, it was dry then, but we ended up starting getting rain about a week later. But you can even tell, 03:22 you know, we ended up filling out good. Doesn't have really any pollination issues even filled out to the tip. So everything looks good there. It's just good to see, you know, 03:29 the products we have going out and then we got checks just a hundred foot over. We got several checks going all the way across this field, 03:35 so we'll be able to see maybe which product was giving us the biggest r o i. Yeah, absolutely. I think it'll be a really good program that, 03:41 that you'll be happy with. So looking forward to seeing what the results are. Yeah. Just a few weeks away. Yep, 03:45 Absolutely.
