This is Wayne Boden and we're in West Central Missouri, Clinton, Missouri, uh, the heart of Golden Valley, they call us.
00:05
So, uh, we're out here in A-B-A-S-F plot, uh, with Caleb Helwig. Uh, we got this table 45 22 enlist bean.
00:13
And so Caleb, tell us what you're looking for in the roots. So we dug up some plants
00:18
and we were just looking at the root structure while we're out here today. And one of the things that we sometimes deal with problems,
00:23
especially in a bean on bean acre, is soybean cys and nematode. And I've done a number of cyst counts in this area.
00:30
And Wayne, that might be something we want to do this fall. Yeah, that would be something to do.
00:33
We can send in a cyst sample and kind of see what kind of troubles that we're having. And I, I've, I've done a lot
00:38
of samples in the last two years in this area and in southwest Missouri. And people are telling me, man, I have some fields
00:45
that just, I can't get the beans to yield. And they're 10, 15, 20 bushels behind the rest of our farm. And I said, well, maybe we need to go do a cyst sample.
00:53
We have been taking some soybeans to nematode sample, sending them off, and find an unbelievably high levels. And when we put 'em in the Missouri regression chart to see
01:01
what the yield loss could or might be, mm-Hmm. It's around 10 to 20 bushels yield loss. And so it's kind of spot on with
01:06
what the farmers are telling me they're seeing in the field. These beans were treated with olivo
01:10
and we don't see any cys nematodes on them. Olivo does completely control soybean cyst nematode in the early life cycle of the plant.
01:18
And so sometimes the cysts don't, uh, get going on them at all. And what we look for in the, in the soybean root zone is,
01:24
I mean, first we look to see if there's compaction or anything like that. We don't see that. We see good nodulation.
01:29
These beans were treated with vault IP plus that's an inoculate from BASF. And it came on the soybeans that we brought,
01:35
that they were treated with. So it helps with inoculation, which makes the nodulation a little bit better
01:41
so they can produce their own nitrogen. And what we're looking for is some really small white balls that are cysts, soybean cysts, nematodes,
01:49
and those are basically the, the cyst on the root. Um, and, and then that leads to more cyst nematodes next year.
01:56
Right? So sometimes when we go to corn, we can reduce that cyst count by about half, but we can't get much better than that.
02:02
So we have to use tools like ILeVO, um, and like, you know, some other options that are becoming for the future that can prevent
02:09
or try to eliminate CYS nematode troubles. Okay.
