Temple visits with XA member Greg Dell to talk about a new piece of technology he added to his sprayer that showed immediate ROI by allowing him to get in the field and get ahead of a bout of tar spot moving into his area over the summer. He talks with Temple about the lift kit he installed from

Simon Innovations.

00:00 All right. This is Temple Rose with Extreme Ag. I'm here. This is one of our extreme Ag members. Uh, 00:05 the reason that we're over here today, this is Greg Dell with Dell Brothers. Um, Greg's father and I, we went to college together. Um, 00:14 his father's probably not real proud of that. I didn't last that long. I got thrown up pretty quick. But Greg, he's kind of more of a, 00:21 he's more of a Chad Henderson Temple Road. Send it guy. He is, uh, very aggressive, uh, in everything that he does. 00:29 So Greg and I have gotten to be really good friends, and he was telling me about this cool, um, lift kit that he got for his sprayer. So, Greg, tell me something about this sprayer and why you did this. 00:40 So we, we took the opportunity work with Simon Innovations and, and, uh, put a lift kit on our 40 38. 00:47 How much lever was that Really a, a day? We started in an afternoon and we finished by the next afternoon. So a day, uh, wasn't too big. See, 00:55 That's not too bad. I would've thought that it would've been super, honestly, I'm thinking about super time consuming, 00:58 keeping it and swapping it out almost like floater tires, just because I want to keep the, keep the components. So feel, 01:04 Feel like you could get it off quick. Well, I think I can get it off even quicker and back on even quicker now that I've done it. Right, because that was more so the learning experience. But, you know, 01:13 putting it on as Mr. Steve, uh, Simon said was fairly easy. You know, a couple little hurdles, but it was mainly us figuring those things out and then we, 01:25 we went after it. Uh, we wanted to be ahead of the game as far as tar spot there, star spot moving in our area. 01:32 You had a big deal with that last year where it kind of came through and didn't you have a couple neighbors that got it really bad this year? 01:38 Absolutely. Yeah. Yeah. Just to the west of us a little bit. Uh, there's tar spot right now, uh, that we're seeing really, 01:45 and we wanted to kind of be ahead of that and we wanted to be a little more control of our fungicide applications. Just applications in general. 01:53 Crop Timing in general. That's right. Um, so like I say, we worked with, uh, Simon Innovations and put it on the machine and 02:01 Well, I mean, how many inches did we add to the machine? So now you can get over the crop. I, 02:06 I am, I'm just shy of 70 inches underneath. I was, it's almost 10 inches. Uh, okay. Since from the factory. I mean, if you look at your two sprayers that are sitting here together Yep. 02:17 I mean, it's astronomically different. Oh, absolutely. Between the two. Yep. Yeah. And, and I had been, that's part of the thing too. I had been, 02:26 some people in this area called me a little crazy for it, but I'd been pushing the limits of trying to run through the crop when 02:34 You probably Shouldn't have. I shouldn't have. Or, you know, just trying to get tael Time. I mean, 02:38 you could have some snapping and some damage that you were doing 'cause you were trying to run through the crop. 02:44 Right. And the thing I learned, I, I learned doing that. I needed to be variety specific. You got different, right. 02:49 Different varieties that are stronger stalked and things like that. This removes that. 02:53 It doesn't matter. Well, not only just fungicide, you're talking about maybe that late appli application of n you know, with us out here in Maryland, we're spoon feeding our crop, 03:01 and now that we're spoon feeding our crop, you can kind of drag a little bit to the end and maybe we can make more yield in the end instead of front loading some of these things. 03:10 Absolutely. And it's, it's a hundred percent across from my mind this year we were a little dry. Uh, So you're not making an application and we, we, well, 03:17 you can take that away and not apply all Money. Not do it. Exactly. And, and that's, that gives us flexibility. You know, I, I, next year if we get moisture, I can come out and say, well, 03:26 let's put 15 more gowns up. Yeah. N or K or Whatever. You can kind of drag it to the end and find out what's going on. Yep. Well, me and I appreciate all the information on this. 03:35 This seems like something's new. It's, it's exciting, it's easy to put on. Um, what about stability? We didn't talk about stability. So is it a little, 03:43 you're pretty rolly around here to be putting a lift kit on? What did you feel like it was any difference? 03:49 Honestly, it's, it's no different than normal. I mean, you plan your trips. You don't want to go across a hill when you're at a normal height with a load 03:57 on. You plan your trips, you know, you know your own fields and things like that. So if you use a little sense, you're okay. Yeah. So I'd wreck it. Yeah, I'd 04:05 Wreck it there. There's been some questionable moments myself, so, uh, but yeah, no, it, stability wise, when you're up in the air, it's good. 04:12 It's strong every once in a while because you don't have, you, you lose some of your travel in the suspension. So 04:19 When you're traveling across the, and sometimes it'll bottom out Right. When when it's coming back up. 04:22 Exactly. Obviously rolling and stuff like that. Yeah. But there are times that I've had that happen, but it's never like I'm hung up in the middle of a cornfield, you know? Right. 04:30 It's usually something that I can continue to navigate. Alright, Well back to you soon. 04:35 We're gonna learn a lot about the assignment and innovations product.
