Enhancing Double Crop Soybean Yields: Kevin Matthews Experiment with Extract In Double-Crop Beans
13 Aug 241m 25s

Kevin Matthews from XtremeAg discusses his latest experiment with double crop soybeans planted behind harvested wheat. They are testing a product called Extract, which contains 6% nitrogen, on 37 acres of a 100-acre field. The goal is to see if the Extract helps the soybeans grow taller and boosts yields by breaking down the wheat stubble and providing additional nitrogen.

00:00 So today Sammy and I, we are um, working on double crop soybeans. So this is soybeans that's planted 00:06 behind the weeds that we harvested. So we got a lot of stubble here. We want that stubble, 00:11 but we also need these nutrients available for the soybeans. So we've got a hundred acres in this field. 00:15 It's one of our bigger fields that we don't have many of. We're going to spray 37 acres in this a hundred acre field 00:21 of extract and we're gonna leave multiple checks across and we're gonna see how this responds. But the beans are just now starting to flower. 00:29 They're a little bit shorter due to our drought. This is 6% nitrogen in this extract product. So I'm really curious if we don't find something 00:37 that helps eliminate those plants and get 'em taller and possibly get yield benefit from the nitrogen part of this extract as much as the breakdown 00:46 of the straw stove stove that we're trying to do. So this is gonna be interesting to see. We had extract in some corn, but the dry weather took it out 00:53 and we chopped that for silage. So we moved this lab down here on double crop wheat and this is gonna be pretty cool 00:59 because this is an area that is usually our least yielding soybean. So we want to see it should be the easiest influence 01:05 of yield return on this product right here, if it works as good as it has in other situations. So this is new for us in the double crop scenario. 01:14 Wheat beans, some folks call 'em. But we're looking forward to seeing how it works out. Sammy's gonna keep you straight on it.
