Hi, this is Kelly Garrett from Extreme Ag. We're here in Gladstone, Illinois, in John Torrance's Soybean Field.
00:04
These are Za Tavo beans from BASF. Also, along with us is Kurt Martins of BSF. To help us talk about the program that we've got going here.
00:12
It's a trial that we've had all across the country with extreme ag. I've got some in Iowa, Wayne, bones in Missouri,
00:18
and Ental is in Indiana, and of course John here in Illinois. John, first let's talk about the chemical
00:23
program. What did you apply and When? So our, uh, our pre-program was, uh, Ze Pro with Liberty, and then our, uh, post chemical program was Liberty enlist.
00:32
Well, it looks like you did a good job. I know that we're supposed to talk about weed escapes and things like that and, and, but, uh, holy cow.
00:40
Uh, they're clean. It's clean. I would say it worked. I would say it worked, Kurt. That's the program
00:44
that we, we had in place. Yes. You know, I, back in, uh, April, I brought John, uh, some boxes, UA Pro along with the liberty and the du
00:52
and laid out the plan ahead of time. And we got in the seat as well, of course. And, you know, I, you know, just coach Don on,
00:58
Hey, I want the residual pro on. Obviously it needs to go on before planting. The residual pro has ZI acid.
01:03
That's a group 15 that's, that's in there giving us residual for the small seed broadleaves.
01:07
And the grasses has pursued in there for residual for the large seed broadleaves, small seed broads and grasses.
01:12
And it has, uh, has sharpened in there as well. 'cause this enhanced burn down if we're, if we're doing no-till, it also gives us a little bit
01:18
of residual for small seed, broad leaves and largely seed broad leaves. Well, A lot of pursuit and sharpen, sharpen a lot
01:23
of familiar names there that take me way back that, uh, you know, pretty significant names in my history of farming. Even back to when my dad, you know,
01:30
before me when my dad's time that, uh, were great chemicals, great chemistries back then. Yeah.
01:35
It makes a well-rounded product. Yeah, absolutely. It covers all of our different weed species that we have here in western Illinois.
01:40
Gives us a ton of residual long lasting, and in a wet year that we've had this year, Jo, John, how many inches of rain have we had on this? This, oh
01:46
Gosh, just in the last two weeks, 10 inches. Uh, I lost track a long time ago. Right. When we have that much precipitation, we,
01:52
we gotta have something with a lot of residual in there. And then when we came back, John, when you came back post,
01:57
we had more residual sc in there to layer in that residual to get us the canopy.
02:01
And I, I think that's why we got such a clean field here. And it's A, it's a large chemical load with, uh, no burn. It
02:06
Is. Exactly. Well, that's what I was gonna remark on. The, the Tavo technology here means great crop safety. Yep. Yeah. It's, it's the enlist list platform,
02:14
so we can use enlist on it and Liberty, and that's, that's the recommendation with the heavy wheat pressure that we see anymore,
02:19
especially with the water hemp. We put those two ais together to ensure that we don't develop resistance to either one of those.
02:24
So it's important we put those together and of course we can use glyphosate if we need to. Did you use glyphosate on this? Uh, we
02:29
Did on the post that passed. Yeah. Just a little bit. Help just to clean up around the outside, help
02:32
With the grass and stuff like that too. So pretty, pretty common program. You know, I think most chemical technologies are designed
02:38
for average rainfall. Is there such a thing as ever an average year? The last two years we've been so dry this year we've been
02:43
so wet that you could see the residual falling out. It obviously didn't here. These chemicals are holding really well.
02:49
Exactly. Exactly. And from BSF, we offer another residual option product with Outlook. A lot of folks use that.
02:55
And the difference between Outlook and ua, not UA probe, but the straight ua that, that, that's the group fifteens
03:00
that we add in with the post pass. The Outlook takes only about a quarter inch of rain to activate.
03:06
So if we think we're in a more of a dry area or a year, or if you're in a drier area, that's a maybe a, a, a good option for you.
03:12
Sure. Versus a year where we're getting lots of rain, we got a forecast for lots of rain, that SWA is gonna really hold tight
03:18
and last a lot longer, especially under we conditions, like I've seen this year, outlook Is a product that we use a lot on
03:23
our farm. It's a really good product. Yeah, it's, it, yeah. It's, it's hard to choose which one,
03:27
and people always ask, you know, which one I choose. And I, again, to me it's does your forecast look wet or does it look dry?
03:32
And that's how I, I make that decision usually. Absolutely. Well, John, I think you're doing a great job. I can't wait to see what the yield benefits here come out,
03:38
what the Combine says. And I, uh, I thank you for all your efforts for Extreme Act. Yep. Thank you. Thank you for the support, Kurt.
03:44
You bet.
