About Lee Lubbers
Farming is a tradition in my family. Both sides of our family migrated from Europe in the late 1800s, and they began by tending to the crops and livestock.
My brother and I began farming in the 1980s and times were tough, but the lessons we learned during that era still shape us today. After graduating from vocational school with an AG Business degree, I took scholarship money I had leftover and put a down payment on my first tractor and rented 200 acres. And we just kept going!
Soil health, biologicals, and plant physiology have been huge driving factors in our crop production. We are a 100% dryland operation. We started doing our first no-till in the late 1980s on winter wheat, long before it became more normal practice.
It took a lot of hard work, but in 2014, we won the Top Producer of the Year award.
XtremeAg is a unique opportunity in that we can combine the accumulated knowledge of seven cutting-edge farming operations. We are real farmers offering real results to each other and our members. We are huge fans of peer-styled groups and we recognize that they can be a major catalyst for everyone collectively gaining knowledge and excelling at a far faster rate than we would separately.
One of my main strengths is my positivity and resilience. We don’t quit, we adapt and keep going.
It’s important to me that we are always learning new things and challenging ourselves. We want to build an operation and legacy that the next generation can be proud of.
One of our challenges is dealing with pH's from 5.8 to 8.2 and CEC's from 15-55w soil types that vary from clay to sandy loam and everything in between. Additionally, we struggle with maximizing yields in a very adverse weather area and managing residue in a no-till environment since our yields go higher the amount of residue increases.
