Farming Video | We Cut 30 Units of Nitrogen... Can the Corn Tell?

Wet weather forced a new game plan, but this corn is making a strong case for nitrogen efficiency. Heath Huisinga shares why cutting 30 units of nitrogen in this N-Finity trial hasn't shown up in the crop—at least not yet.

00:00 Heath Huizinga out here with XtremeAg, and we're in our Agrason Infinity corn plot. Now, this was actually slated 00:00:08 to go in-furrow for us, but if you've been following along with Illinois weather, Central Illinois, Southern Illinois, 00:00:14 it's been wet. So round one did not go as planned with some replant that happened. So we pivoted to option number two, and we actually 00:00:22 added this into the Y-Drop pass. Now, last week, I was out here and I put on this Y-Drop pass, and I must say, the corn was not this big. 00:00:31 It has grown a lot since then, and in addition to adding that to our Y-Drop pass, we actually cut back on 30 00:00:39 units of nitrogen in the form of UAN 32. And I got to say, looking at the corn, you'd never know it. This is a beautiful-looking field of corn for 150 pounds of nitrogen 00:00:51 applied pre-plant. This looks phenomenal. And in addition to adding that to our Y-Drop mix, we also had some potassium in there, some phosphorus, some sulfur, 00:01:02 some things like that, and I had no tank compatibility issues. I know whenever you start mixing a lot of that stuff together, it can be sometimes a 00:01:12 matter of will I turn my tank to Play-Doh or not. But I had no issues here. It went on great. No residue left in the tank. And one of the things I also really liked about 00:01:22 adding Infinity here is with some of the microbes that exist in it, we know that our soils are able to produce some nitrogen. And the last thing we want to do is overload that plant, 00:01:33 especially with synthetic nitrogen, that it can't actually readily process. And with the Infinity product, we're actually adding some of those microbes to the 00:01:41 soil to help break loose and let free what's in the soil, and also give the plant the readily 00:01:49 available form and the proper building blocks to really assimilate that nitrogen. Nitrogen conversion efficiency is the name of the game 00:01:57 here. And again, I just want you guys to see this beautiful field of corn. I'm really proud of it here.
