Temple from XtremeAg reveals key takeaways from last year’s farm trials, highlighting how strategic nutrient timing and reduced fertility inputs led to significant cost savings without compromising yields. By applying phosphorus, potassium, and micronutrients only when crops needed them, he was able to optimize efficiency while preserving soil health.

00:00:00 Hey guys, this is Temple with Extreme Ag. So what we're doing today is, is we're going through all the data that we went through last year, 00:00:07 you know, with our trials and the things that we were doing on our farm, what worked, what didn't work. 00:00:11 So, you know, some of the things that are major changes last year, you know, because inputs were getting so bad, 00:00:17 we were getting worried about 'em, and we're still worried about them. But one of the things 00:00:22 that we did last year is we really cut back on fertility and we started to get in front of the windows 00:00:26 of opportunity, right? We know that a corn plant only uses a certain amount of phosphorus. 00:00:32 Let's just for say, um, you know, from the time that it, it comes outta the ground, you know, emergence through like 00:00:39 V four, V five, I knew I needed to determine the rows around, but I also know that it only uses about 7% of the amount of phosphorus 00:00:47 that it needs in its plant's life in that, in that opportunity window. So we did a lot of that and we, we followed these charts 00:00:55 and it seemed out like it worked out, really worked out, and we saved a lot of money in fertility 00:01:01 and we didn't mine our ground either. So, you know, a lot of things that we're gonna really concentrate on this year is, 00:01:07 you know, our in for our treatment. You know, we, we took nature's program and we worked a lot alongside with nature's, 00:01:14 and they helped me fine tune my program for what I needed at phosphorus, my micronutrients, the potassium that I, that I, I needed 00:01:21 because I didn't spray spread any, um, KCL out there like I usually do. So we applied the products when the products need, you know, 00:01:29 the nutrients, I should say, not the products we applied, the nutrients when it, when it was needed. 00:01:34 And a lot of the ways that we used a lot of stuff, you know, the efficiency level was, was so great 00:01:40 and it worked out so well. You know, we started to figure out that maybe we don't need to, you know, maintain our soil the way 00:01:48 that we thought we needed to maintain it. It seems like we were always worried about building our soil, building our soil, building our soil. 00:01:54 What we're finding out is, is all of us have imbalanced soil. It's always gonna be in balance. 00:01:59 We're never gonna truly correct our soils. Maybe we just need to correct our plans, you know, for that growing season. 00:02:06 And we found out a lot of that stuff and the watershed that we're in over the years that we've been doing this, well, we just kind of took it 00:02:12 to a whole nother level last year. Turns out it worked out very well. You know, a few things 00:02:18 that we're gonna do get nutrients available, that the nutrients that are out there that are in our soul. We left a bank of nutrition 00:02:24 out there, it's been there for years. Let's get a hold of it. Getting in front of the windows of opportunity that we have, 00:02:30 that we know that we need, need to be there. Have the fertility there right before it needs it, and don't waste fertility. 00:02:36 Don't go overboard. So these are some of the things that we're doing this year. We really have, you know, pulled apart the numbers 00:02:43 and we're really figured out that this is really working for us. I'm not saying it's gonna work for everybody, 00:02:49 but in years, like what's coming up, you know, they always say it's exciting times to be in agriculture. You know, I've heard that for years. 00:02:56 It doesn't seem like it's exciting. Very, right now. I'm optimistic to see where we're going. Um, I've got great hopes for it. 00:03:03 Um, I think, you know, our prices are, are, are coming up a little bit now, so there is a little more hope in there, 00:03:10 but we still need to watch every penny that we, that we put out there, don't waste what we can get out there, get it in the plant. 00:03:17 We don't need to worry quite as much about the soil. We're always gonna worry about the soil, and we always wanna keep our soil as balanced 00:03:23 as we possibly can. What I'm saying is, is we don't need to put out there more than what we really need. 00:03:30 Let's use it up. Let's go to efficient, efficient, efficient. You know, that's what the name of the game is. 00:03:36 Get right in front of those windows of op of opportunity and plug and play. So we learned a lot this year and it was successful 00:03:44 and we saved a lot of money on our inputs. 00:03:46.985 --> 00:03:47.445
