In this video, Kelly Garrett revisits tile drainage projects installed a year earlier to assess their impact on productivity and soil health. Previously, erosion and persistent wet spots caused loss of arable land and reduced efficiency in field operations.

00:00 I came out here this afternoon to check the tile projects that we put in a year ago. 00:00:05 This draw used to be eroded all the way back because of the wet spot that's in it. And then the, you had to make end rows 00:00:12 and go up around it, come back down. You were losing acres, you were losing productivity. And it's some of the most fertile soil on the farm. 00:00:18 It's obviously got some slope to it. It's not flat like Chad Henderson's, but the soil here does have really good 00:00:25 fertility, things like that. And now when we're draining the water off, we're able to utilize all this ground and put it back in production. 00:00:33 You know, we talk a lot about sustainability and we talk a lot about nutrient availability and we talk about, uh, soil health. 00:00:40 I think one of the unsung heroes in soil health is really tile and the asset creation 00:00:45 that we can create with our land. The, uh, the bulk of a farmer's assets are in the land and the tile really improves that asset and builds it up. 00:00:55 I can't think of a better investment to do on my land other than tile. And we spend most of the time talking about inputs 00:01:02 and fertility and cover crops and no-till. And all of those things are important, but none of those things, in my opinion, 29 00:01:08.835 --> 00:01:11.405
