Farming Video | Smart Sprayer Setup to Reduce Compaction in Cover Crops | XtremeAg

In this video, Kevin Matthews explains how he's spraying corn and soybean ground currently covered with a barley cover crop, highlighting a technique to minimize soil compaction without using floater tires. By independently adjusting the axle widths on his Hagie sprayer—140 inches on the front and 120 inches on the rear—Kevin creates an offset track pattern that mimics dual wheels. This staggered configuration prevents the sprayer from running in the same track twice, improving flotation and reducing rutting and compaction.

00:00:00 So we're spraying, uh, corn and soybean ground. This is our barley cover crop that we're spraying today. Couple things, we're doing a little bit different here. 00:00:09 We don't have a set of floater tires for this sprayer, and that's one of the big advantages that Aggie has is you can independently control the width 00:00:18 of your front axles and your back axles. And the way you do that is you just sit like the front. I set it for 140 inch center 00:00:27 and in the rear I leave it at 120. And what that does is it looks like you got dual wheels going across the field, but it keeps the front 00:00:35 and the rear of the sprayer not running in the same track. So it prevents any ruing, helps on flotation, 00:00:42 helps on compaction. It's just a really easy way to do it. That's one of the features 00:00:48 that I've always really liked about the Haggy sprayer and, and now that John Deere's got all their controls in it, 00:00:54 and it's just amazing how smooth a machine this thing is. So if you are having some issues 00:01:01 with getting out on the ground and don't have a set of Fluer tires, I highly recommend using this feature. 00:01:07 If you're running a really good sprayer, like what we're running, always like the front boom, but then all wheel steer is amazing. 00:01:15 And then the versatility is just, it's just more thought processes in this machine that really makes it easy to use and more adaptable. 00:01:25 And we're not worried about where the planter goes or any of that at this time because again, we're just spraying, burn down, 00:01:31 nothing's planted here, but we're not trying to drive a road or anything that'll come later this season. 00:01:38 If you got compaction issues like we do and you're trying to keep from putting a RU in the field, this is a really good way to do it. 39 00:01:45.305 --> 00:01:48.885
