Xtreme Ag member, Andy Hubenthal, demonstrates the critical role of seed size and shape in achieving optimal performance with seed meters.

00:00:00 Hey guys, wanted to go over thing, um, about seed. You put through your planter running in a uh, finger meter here and I'm gonna put two different seeds in 00:00:10 and we're gonna show you the results of two different sizes, seed sizes and shapes. 00:00:28 But your precision meter finger pickup, it's about 1,840 seeds per uh, pound. We're doing a test of a thousand seeds is 00:00:37 what each test is normally at. And we've done a thousand seeds, 32,000 population. We're gonna five skips 00:00:46 and two multiples, which gives us the loss and good because we got the, it's under $4, we get a good loss. So we're gonna let this run out 00:00:53 and then we'll put the other number in and then we'll see how it does. Okay guys, we're gonna do the second number. 00:01:00 This one's like 1641. 1640 seeds I wanna show you real quick, there's the difference in the seeds. 00:01:09 These are a little flatter, these a little rounder, these, there is some difference in 'em. 00:01:13 So Lemme shut this off guys. So we here. So guys, it does make a difference. We're up to 21 skips and we're up to an $8 loss. 00:01:38 And that is not changing anything. That is just the difference in seed. And as you can tell, they're both about, 00:01:44 got about the same amount of graphite on them. So that wouldn't be a difference. So the seed shape makes a rule of difference, 00:01:49 especially in these finger meters. So it's imperative that we go and get these things calibrated 00:01:54 and make sure your seed will run in. 'cause I have had instances where there's been a seed that a farmer's brought in 00:01:59 and it will not run in the meter no matter what you do on an adjustment. So thought of some decent information you guys might need 00:02:06 to know for this coming spring. Definitely get your meters calibrated and make sure you've got your seed 00:02:11 that the guy can calibrate whoever using to calibrate. 00:02:14.545 --> 00:02:15.245
