Power Plant Seed Treatment: Maximizing Phosphorus Uptake Without In-Furrow or 2x2 Application on your farm | Commodity Classic 2025
At Commodity Classic 2025, Damian Mason learns about PowerPlant from AgroTech USA , a new seed treatment designed for farmers who lack in-furrow or 2x2 application capabilities.
Unlike traditional talc and graphite treatments, Power Plant incorporates microalgae, enhancing root development and microbial activity for a stronger start. The dry hopper box treatment is easy to apply—either directly in the seed hopper or through a seed treater—and is compatible with various seed coatings, including fungicides and insecticides.
00:00:00 If you have equipment limitations, meaning you're limited on what you can do at time of planting, we have a product for you. 00:00:05 I'm with Molly Alexander, agronomist with Agritech USA here at Commodity Classic 2025. Kind of exciting because Molly, you've got power plant 00:00:13 and the idea is this is basically gonna get everything off to a start. It's going to more importantly get the extract the 00:00:19 fertility resources in the soil. And this is for somebody that doesn't have two by two or in furrow and all that 00:00:23 kind of thing. It's a seed treatment. Yes. So initially the thought was we've seen nutri charge work in all aspects. 00:00:30 And so we had guys that they wanted nutri charge. They were excited about it, but they didn't have a way to put it on. 00:00:35 So in my area, we have a lot of cotton, we have a lot of peanuts, it's just not a large starter market. And so we wanted 00:00:42 to answer their application limitation problems. So in turn, we designed power plant. So it's geared and powered up 00:00:50 by the Nutri Charge technology, which is what drew people to this initially instead of TAL and graphite. 00:00:57 Yep. It is a talc and graphite replacement, but instead of talc, we built microalgae in. Okay. It's a seed treatment. Mm-hmm. 00:01:04 By not using taal and graphite, we can make the claim that it's more biodegradable, it's more organic. Is it, is it, is it somehow is 00:01:11 or is there a benefit to that? Or is it just a matter of it works better. So microalgae in a sense, is going 00:01:17 to help jumpstart your root system. And so it's sort of like a shot of crack for your roots. Okay. And it provides a really good food 00:01:23 source for your microbes. You don't hear a lot of, uh, people here at my classic saying it's a shot of crack for your roots, but I like it, Molly. 00:01:30 Uh, alright. So the main thing here is if I don't have in furrow, I don't have two by two, 00:01:34 I'm not now gonna be limited. And you said it gets you the Nutri charge benefit. So somebody doesn't know what that means. 00:01:40 This came on our radar, our extreme ag with Matt Miles who said, I have boatloads of phosphorus in my soil and I'm not getting into my plants. 00:01:47 They discovered Nutri charge. Mm-hmm. From Agritech USA and it, it basically, it, it helps you get all that phosphorous outta the ground into the plants. 00:01:54 Yes. Is that what I'm doing here? Yes. So this does have the patented Nutri Charge technology in it. 00:02:00 This is just in a dry hopper box treatment form. So you are getting the full nutri charge effect and benefits just in a way 00:02:07 that there are now no application limitations. Am I dumping this like right there out there in my, in my seed hopper on my, uh, planter? 00:02:14 Or do I need to run this through an actual seed treater? You can do both. So I've got guys 00:02:18 that don't have a seed treater, they don't have a finishing box. Um, they just dump it directly in the hopper. 00:02:23 They stir it up, their vacuum planter will suck it down. It coats all the seeds and off they go. 00:02:27 Okay. Any limitations, any compatibility issues? Anything that I need to know where it's like, oh crap, don't do that. 00:02:32 No. So in my area, we have a lot of like say peanut seeds that are treated with an inoculate, right? 00:02:37 Yep. Yep. And so we've had no compatibility issues, whether it be on cotton seed, peanut corn, soybeans, if it's pretreated with anything, whether it, you know, 00:02:46 be in, uh, insecticide, fungicide, nematicide, et cetera. We've not had any issues. 00:02:51 The big thing, uh, uh, your coworker James Paterson and I talk about the future is going to be more restrictions on applied nutrients. 00:02:57 Does this help me go down the road of reducing my applied nutrients? It will. So with the neutral charge technology, 00:03:02 it's gonna do the same thing as the liquid. It's helping you mine nutrients that are existing in your soil reserves. 00:03:08 And so I can decrease my phosphates. Possibly, Yes, possibly yes. Just induced this. What else do I 00:03:13 need to know if I'm gonna buy some of this? This treats about how much? So this is, it comes in a 10 pound bucket on corn, 00:03:19 it's three ounces a unit. Okay. On soybeans, it's two ounces a unit that seems Like a really little teeny bit of powder to go over all 00:03:26 that amount of, uh, seed. Is it really gonna Work? It does, but if you actually look at the hopper, 00:03:29 you can tell that every seed got coated because the seed, your hopper, uh, box and probably your hands are gonna be this very shiny, 00:03:38 beautiful glittery color. As you can see, The color of algae. Yes. Color of money is what I like to say. I 00:03:44 Like it. Her name's Molly Alexander. 00:03:45.805 --> 00:03:46.165 She's an agronomist here at Agritech. 00:03:47 USA we're talking about was new from commodity Classic 2025 power plants powered by new charges on 00:03:51 seed starter helping you. If you have planter limitations, you can still get the benefit without having two by two 00:03:57 and furrow technology, whatnot. You can still get the big benefit outta this and utilize phosphorus 00:04:01 that you already paid for that's in your soil. Till next time, Damien Mason coming at you for extreme ag.
