Farming Video | Measuring How Oceanic Impacts Cotton Throughout the Season

We're out here in the Texas Panhandle on a hot and windy afternoon, looking at an XtremeAg cotton trial where we're going to be evaluating 00:00:08 Oceanic from Tidal Grow. We're going to be adding Oceanic to the standard fertigation program in this field. 00:00:16 Part of the other objective with this trial is, rather than make assumptions about what the product did or didn't do, we're going to be measuring 00:00:25 function through soil and plant throughout the season using soluble soil testing coupled with irrigation water, plant sap 00:00:33 analysis, really tracking that nutrient flow from soil to plant throughout the season, all the way to harvest. The goal is not simply to compare yield at the end of the year, it's to understand 00:00:43 what changes within the soil and the plant to actually lead to those results. One of the biggest things we've learned over the last several years is 00:00:50 that crop performance is often limited less by the amount of fertility supplied, and more about how well those nutrients function. 00:00:58 Soil chemistry, irrigation water, salts, nutrient antagonisms can all reduce nutrient availability and plant performance, even when soil tests say we're 00:01:05 okay. Oceanic's interesting because it gives us another management tool to evaluate within that system. 00:01:12 Naturally derived amino acids should support plant and microbial activity, while enzymes and organic acids could influence nutrient 00:01:19 cycling in the root zone. It also contains lipids that should support beneficial fungal activity around the roots, really improving access to water and nutrients, 00:01:29 really influencing that rhizosphere. Those are all mechanisms that we can evaluate with the data we're collecting through the season. 00:01:37 We're not here just to prove a product works. We're here to measure how it works. And as a grower, that's important to me, and I imagine is to many 00:01:45 of you guys as well.
