Farming Video | Low Nitrogen Trial With Pivot Bio | XtremeAg

6 May 252m 37s

Kelly Garrett teams up with agronomist Alex Obermeyer from Pivot Bio to launch a nitrogen rate trial on a no-till, corn-on-corn farm west of Dunlap. The trial evaluates Pivot Bio’s upcoming G3 microbial product to determine how low synthetic nitrogen rates can go without sacrificing yield. Variable rate applications range from 40 to 200 pounds, with and without the Pivot Bio treatment, to test nutrient density, nitrogen assimilation, and potential input cost savings. This on-farm test is designed to push the limits of microbial nitrogen replacement in real-world conditions using side-by-side comparisons and VRT scripting.

00:00:00 Hi, this is Kelly Garrett from Extreme Ag. We're out here today. I'm very excited with the trial we're putting in it's Pivot Bio. 00:00:06 This is Alex Obermeyer, an agronomist from Pivot Bio. He doesn't live too far from me. It's the first time we've met, but we know some 00:00:12 of the same people, so I'm excited here. We're out here west of Dunlap on a farm, uh, no-till corn on corn. 00:00:18 Um, you know, there's been a lot of conversation between Alex and I about my nitrogen rate. Uh, we, our variable rate nitrogen, 00:00:25 it's anhydrous 80 to 180. 80 to 200 pounds is the variable rate where we're putting on the pivot. 00:00:32 We've dropped it to 40 pounds because we wanna find out how low can we go, the 40 pounds plus the pivot. 00:00:38 We're gonna have 40 pounds without the pivot. We're gonna put some pivot on areas that have 80 pounds in the higher 00:00:44 yielding areas, things like that. You know, I've started to work with our cattle and our corn on nutrient density, you know, 00:00:50 some nutrient dense beef, nutrient dense corn, the health, the taste of the, of those products, 00:00:55 be it the grain or the crop. So I'm super excited to see how low of nitrogen can I get. And we, now we've not even talked about the input savings. 00:01:03 Alex, can you tell us, uh, this is a newer product that we're using. What do you, what can you tell us 00:01:07 about the product today? Yeah, So this is actually gonna be really exciting this year 'cause this will be our G three product 00:01:12 that we'll actually be able to be sold in the 26 growing season. Uh, so we've got multiple demos kind 00:01:17 of across the territory this year, but really kind of testing the limits of it, finding out what else we can learn from it. 00:01:23 The G three comes from additional microbes as well as third generation as well. So it's very exciting for pivot 00:01:28 'cause we're starting to move the mark even further than what we have and gonna, you know, try 00:01:33 to cut down more nitrogen that we can. It's super exciting for me because to me nutrient density 00:01:39 is 95% assimilation of nitrogen in the plant. And because of all the nitrogen that our soil releases that we have organically here, which the Pivot's gonna help 00:01:48 with, it's hard for me to get to that. It's hard for me to get to 95% assimilation. I very much wanna find the bottom of the synthetic I can get 00:01:56 to because of the cost savings and because of the nutrient density and the balance in the plant. 00:02:02 And so this is one of the trials that I'm most excited about this year for all the trials we're putting in. 00:02:07 What are we gonna find out here because we're in uncharted territory? Well, and it's gonna be pretty exciting with this trial 00:02:12 'cause we'll have some VRT scripts out here where we're really dropping our synthetic nitrogen extremely low. 00:02:17 So we're gonna truly get to see what these microbes can do and kind of help boost your yields as well with it. 00:02:21 That's exactly what I'm talking about. We'll be through here throughout the season. Like I said, Alex isn't that far away. 00:02:26 We can come up here, look at the field, compare things. We're gonna have two or three side-by-side out here. 00:02:31.035 --> 00:02:32.355
