Farming Video | How Do You Harvest Downed Beans Without Losing Yield?

Kelly Garrett is up in Iowa working through a tough bean field—flat, green-stemmed soybeans that just won’t stand up right. Weather's played a hand, and these beans aren’t making harvest easy. But Kelly’s running Honey Bee headers and says they’re doing a solid job pulling that crop in.

00:00:00 Hi, this is Kelly here from Extreme Ag. We're up here by you, Iowa, combine and beans. It's a little bit challenging 00:00:06 because of the weather we've had this year. These beans are down, what I mean, they're not standing well, we desiccated them, 00:00:13 but some of the beans are pretty flat in the ground, so the stems are still green. Things like that. It's a challenge to get 'em up, 00:00:18 but we're up here with our honeybee heads and I feel like they're doing an excellent job. One of the features that I really like about the honeybee 00:00:25 heads is I feel like the reel goes ahead further and comes down for you. It takes some management to run it, things like that. 00:00:31 You obviously don't wanna put it into the earth, but you can go down and get those beans and pick 'em up, and it really helps us cut 'em off better. 00:00:38 I sure have had easier soybean fields to cook in this one. Burning and rich are out there. 00:00:43 Like I said, they're managing that reel, trying to pick 'em up, taking their time, going slow. This is one of the reasons we have honeybee heads is 00:00:51 because we can go down and get that flat crop off the ground 00:00:53.215 --> 00:00:54.295
