Farming Video | Johnny Verell Cuts Nitrogen Costs with Pivot Bio’s Proven 40
1 Aug 251m 31s

In this field update, Johnny Verell of XtremeAg shares how his farm navigated a challenging season marked by excess rainfall and fertilizer shortages. He highlights how using Pivot Bio’s Proven 40 as a seed treatment helped reduce nitrogen applications by 40 units, easing input stress during a tight nitrogen market. Even after 13–14 inches of rain shortly after planting, the corn is thriving—thanks to Proven 40’s root-colonizing microbes that continually pull nitrogen from the atmosphere. Johnny emphasizes how the product not only saves on fertilizer costs but also provides consistency and peace of mind in tough years.

00:00:00 Johnny Verell Extreme Act. We're out here today looking at a little bit of corn and you know, this year has been a 00:00:04 challenge from start to finish. You know, we've had excess rainfall, we've had, you know, fertilized shortages. 00:00:10 It seems like trying to get our liquid fertilized put out on our corn is a challenge this year. 00:00:13 And so, you know, you're thinking about what things are and how things are gonna be different. What we could plan for different, well, 00:00:18 one thing we've been doing the last few years on our farm, we've been using a product with Pivot Bio called Proven 40. 00:00:23 And it's actually a standard practice on our farm. We've been using it for several years. We got a good fit for it in our operation, 00:00:29 but it does allow us to reduce our nitrogen by 40 units. And on a year, like this year when we've had, what, 13, 00:00:34 14 inches of rainfall just a few weeks after we planted our corn, if we'd had that nitrogen up front, the loss would've been excessive in 00:00:41 that amount of nitrogen with that amount of rainfall, especially when corn wasn't even up yet. But we use, you know, pivot bottle proven 00:00:46 before we actually seed treat our corn with it, just how it grows on the roots and consciously pulling more nitrogen from the atmosphere, things like that. 00:00:52 It's always supplying that plant what it needs. You can see it behind us here. The corn looks great, it looks happy. 00:00:57 We've had a lot of rain this year. Uh, nitrogen is gonna be an issue on a lot of farms. It could be an issue on ours, 00:01:03 but as of right now, everything we're seeing in the plots looks great. The corn looks good overall. 00:01:07 And like I said, the other thing we ran into this year, another thing I like about it, it reduced us by 40 units, and that was 40 less units I was trying 00:01:12 to find when nitrogen did get tight this year, and the cost of it went up so high. So there's a, there is always a fit for these products. 00:01:19 You gotta figure out how they work best on your farm, but once you get in sync and figure out exactly how it's working 00:01:23 and where you can use it, it really makes things a lot 00:01:25.775 --> 00:01:25.975
