Johnny Verell of XtremeAg discusses the advantages of using a mixed-flow grain dryer for drying late-season corn. This efficient system reduces moisture from 21-23% to 15% at a low cost of 7-8 cents per bushel, including electricity and fuel. The dryer preserves premium corn quality with consistent test weights and ambient temperature output, eliminating the need for prolonged cooling or fan use.

00:00:00 Johnny pll with a extreme ag. You know, we're out here today looking at this grain dryer we're running right now and everything's 00:00:05 running really smooth on it. The temperature outside today's in the mid eighties, which for this time of year for us is very unusual. 00:00:11 We're actually drying corn right now. Almost at the end of October we planted some corn behind wheat, so it got put in the middle of June. 00:00:18 So it's just now coming off and we got this drain dryer kicked up the other day and it's running really smooth. 00:00:23 You know, we always talk about mixed flow dryers, the pros and cons of 'em. You know, one of the biggest positive things about 00:00:28 'em is the efficiency of them. That dryer is really efficient. It's cost us, you know, seven 8 cents electricity 00:00:34 and fuel included the dry corn down from the 21, 20 3% range down to uh, 15%. 00:00:40 So it's real efficient in that. The other thing I like about a mixed flow dryer is the quality of the corn, you know, 00:00:46 and we're sitting here chesting this corn as it's coming out, moisture's coming out right at 15 5, 15 8, something like that. 00:00:52 But since this corn doesn't ever get really hot and it's constantly flipping it back and forth, the quality of the corn is a premium. 00:00:58 You got really good test weight with it. And what I love about a mixed flow dryer is when it comes outta my dryer, it is ambient temperature. 00:01:05 So like today the corn's coming out 83, 85 degrees, something like that coming out. It don't have to go into bin and sweat. 00:01:11 It comes out ready to go off to the elevator and I don't have to run fans for several days to cool it off and get that sweat out of it. 00:01:17 So, you know, big things about it is the quality. You can't beat the quality in a mixed flow dryer. They've got a lot of things figured out 00:01:24 and I always say all the time about a superior grain dryer there is, the fans are all at the bottom. 00:01:29 So anytime I have to work on it, all the belts are at the bottom, all the electric motors are at the bottom. 00:01:33 It's very easy to get to. You don't have to have a crane come out and help. 00:01:36.835 --> 00:01:38.645
