Farming Video | Intrava DX Herbicide Trial: Lee Lubbers’ 30-Day Results Without Atrazine

21 Jul 254m 33s

Lee Lubbers of XtremeAg shares his 30-day checkup on a new pre-emerge herbicide program using Intrava DX and Moccasin from UPL—completely free of atrazine. Filmed in no-till corn following soybean stubble in South Dakota, Lee talks through his results in a strip trial showing “whistle clean” fields with just one weed spotted after 30 days. With mounting weed pressure from Waterhemp and Palmer amaranth, Lee highlights how this new chemistry—a combo of amino carone and sym rabu—delivers control and flexibility. He’s skipping post applications altogether and appreciating the low use rates and rotational benefits. For growers aiming to reduce atrazine while still getting strong weed control, this could be a solid option.

00:00:00 Hey everybody, it's Lee Luber Extreme Ag here in Greggy, South Dakota. I'm standing in one of our corn fields 00:00:06 and this is right at 30 days post application, a brand new chemistry that we've never worked with. It's new in the industry from UPL. 00:00:15 Uh, it's in Treva DX combined with Moccasin, which is like a dual style product. What makes uh, intra DX unique is a whole entire new 00:00:26 chemistry in the arena in the war on weeds. What it is, it's amino carone with some attributing in it and it's one pint per acre is what we're running in no-till. 00:00:37 And then one pint with moccasin and no atrazine, which is kind of a cool aspect. No, I'm not saying we're anti atrazine, 00:00:46 but we are very low use rates on atrazine and try not to use it. Uh, and also atrazine use is getting a lot of scrutiny 00:00:56 with more people doing cover crops into the, uh, rotations they're doing and interceding, uh, atrazine a no-no. 00:01:04 By using this it gives you the option. We could come in, we could intercede with a drone, we could do cover crops later. 00:01:11 I know Kelly, he's starting to work a lot more with that in Iowa. So this gives him another tool in his toolbox for himself 00:01:19 and a lot of other growers ourselves and everybody watching this, it's been right at 30 days application. 00:01:25 We're gonna go walk around and look at it. It looks whistle clean. I'm really excited about it. Like I said, it's brand new in the industry 00:01:34 and as we know, the war on weeds is ongoing. They're not gonna go away. We look in our area how water hemp 00:01:41 and palmer amaranth is shifted into the area, start coming in and it's a serious battle. Entra DX is a great tool on that. 00:01:50 It has really good control. I'm really impressed with it. And we are going 00:01:55 to skip doing any post applications in this field. We're gonna rely a hundred percent on a pre and we have 120 foot in ear in 00:02:03 the middle of this half section. And on the other side, this chiro at a 50 ounce rate with a pint of atrazine 00:02:11 and then four miles down the road we have a huge strip of Etra DX in the middle of a quarter. So we're kind of excited about it 00:02:19 where we can get great control and skip atrazine. So we're gonna do a little walk around today. I'll show you what it's like after 30 days. 00:02:27 I wanted to wait, see how it's hanging on, see how it's working into the season and then we'll take it all the way to harvest 00:02:34 and I'll show you how the season long control is. Here I am in the middle of an Entra DX 120 foot strip in this half section. 00:02:43 And it was no-till into soybeans stubble. It's been right at 30 days. We have had some real cool weather, slow emergence. 00:02:52 Uh, I've been hearing a lot of chemical complaints around the area, guys having issues with pres. This is whistle clean. 00:03:00 We got one ring to activate it right after planting. Here's one weed. This is it. This isn't as honest as you get. 00:03:10 I walked along, I found one weed, that's it. Otherwise I'm walking around. It's corn and it was heavy residue last year. 00:03:20 This field of beans, it was in the sixties, which is a very good yield for our area. It was heavy residue. You can see continuous no-till. 00:03:29 So I'm kind of excited about the Entra dx, what it's doing in heavy residue and no-till. And so is UPL because it's something new 00:03:37 and they want to see how it would work in a no-till environment. And I'm impressed it is clean. 00:03:43 That one weed, that's an outlier. I'm not worried about him. Like I said, 30 days post application. 00:03:51 I'm liking what I'm seeing. This definitely could be an option for next year. Low use rates. Uh, we ran a pint 00:03:58 and a pint, a pint of Entra dx, a pint of moccasin. No atrazine. Lot less chemical to handle than what we're running is 50 ounces on our other pre 00:04:10 and a pint of atrazine. And this gives us more flexibility in regards to rotation and cover crop because we're not running atrazine. 00:04:20 So stay tuned. I'll do some more walkthroughs throughout the season and we'll take it to harvest 00:04:25 and see how season long control is. 00:04:26.745 --> 00:04:28.165
