How to Successfully Mix Calcium with Phosphorus in Your Tank Mix

How do you mix a 3% calcium product with phosphorus without causing precipitation issues? Calcium and phosphorus naturally react due to their opposing charges, often resulting in a thick, unusable sludge. Jared Cook explains that the key to a successful mix lies in using calcium EDTA—a fully chelated calcium product. This chelation neutralizes calcium’s charge, preventing unwanted reactions when mixed with phosphorus.

00:00:00 Hi, this is Kelly Garrett from Extreme Ag. I'm here with Jared Cook of calibrated agronomy, and Caitlyn put us in front of this tote right here 00:00:06 because this is exactly what we're gonna talk about. A question came into extreme ag asking how do I mix a 3% calcium product with my phosphorus? 00:00:16 As most people know, that can be a tough thing to figure out. Yeah. 'cause if you put calcium in with phosphorus, 00:00:22 you might end up with goop, whereas Matt Miles or Chad Henderson will tell you big old bunch of snot. Snot. But Jared Cook thinks that he has a few things to look 00:00:30 for in the products you should be using that can accomplish that mix. Yeah. So right outta the gate, the number one product 00:00:36 that can be used by any grower anywhere is calcium. EDTA. Calcium, EDTA is a fully chelated calcium, meaning calcium. 00:00:45 The, the reason calcium precipitates with phosphate is because calcium's positively charged. Right. Phosphorus is negatively charged like magnets. 00:00:52 They wanna attract, well, we can take a chelate like EDTA and totally wrap it around that calcium to where 00:01:00 EDTA satisfies the electrical charge of the calcium. Therefore, when you put calcium and phosphate in the same tank mix, there's no antagonism. 00:01:09 It's all, it's, it's eliminated. And so that's, that's one number one that growers can use as calcium EETA. 00:01:16 Probably the easiest, safest, most cost, afford cost, affordable method that you, you could use at the farm. It really does matter the quality of the products. Yeah. 00:01:24 And as a grower throughout, uh, history and things like that, trying different things in furrow on my farm or foliar, you 00:01:30 might end up with a problem all the time. We should always jar test our products. Yes. Always jar test our mixes. 00:01:34 But it doesn't really matter what company you buy it from. Just look at the quality of the product. Yep. 00:01:40 Make sure the calcium's EDTA. Yep. And you can put 'em both in fur that Rip. Absolutely. Because 00:01:44 Otherwise you're talking about a grower adding a pass, which we're not gonna do. No. We need to be able to accomplish this 00:01:49 and as as efficient of a manner as possible. EDTA helps us do that. Absolutely. Yep. There you go. 50 00:01:56.635 --> 00:01:57.965
