Farming Video | How Low Can Kelly Garrett Go on Nitrogen?

The fields are clean. The fields look pretty even. Everything's looking very uniform. 00:00:15 And one of the things we're monitoring with our nitrogen reduction that we try to employ here, and we're trying to get more extreme all the time, turn 00:00:23 down that nitrogen more and more, especially in light of the cost of what nitrogen is now, especially looking at fall. 00:00:29 So the studies that we're working on this year are how low can I go on nitrogen? And then if I don't have enough in the season with my hills, I 00:00:37 can't go out and side dress, I can't Y drop because of the iron blight that we have. 00:00:43 What's my solution? And one of the things we're looking at this year, and I'm very excited about it because I want to get lower on nitrogen, I want to save that 00:00:50 money, is Align N from Tidal Grow. My good friend Gaylon Beer works there. I've known Gaylon now for six or seven years. We talk about several things, farming in the panhandle of 00:01:01 Oklahoma and up here in Iowa, and we discuss a lot about how can we carve out a little bit of more ROI. And NUE, nutrient use efficiency, especially as it 00:01:13 pertains to nitrogen, is the biggest way for me to try to do that. But what if I don't have enough? And so this year, we're really 00:01:20 looking at a lot of Align N trials later in season, maybe applying it at V10 when we make our first 00:01:27 airplane pass that we typically do. I've moved a lot of my fertility budget to that time. I'm really excited to have the option of trying Align 00:01:37 N at that time to maybe give that corn that nitrogen it needs to go in the reproductive cycle if the weather turns out or the year turns out that I don't have 00:01:47 enough as far as I've turned it down, and we've turned it down a lot.
