Farming Video | Kelly Garrett’s 2026 Herbicide Game Plan

10 Dec 25

Cold, rainy days are for sharpening pencils—and that’s exactly what Kelly Garrett’s doing as he maps out his 2026 crop inputs. In this video, he walks through the cost-cutting moves already made to fertility and nitrogen—and why, even with tight margins, he’s sticking with the higher rate of Intrava DX in his herbicide program. After field-testing 16 oz vs 20 oz, the verdict on waterhemp control was clear. If you’re looking at herbicide options for next season, this is worth a listen.

00:00:00 Hi, this is Kelly Gear from Extreme Ag. Rainy, windy, cold, uh, overcast day outside. Today I'm sitting at my desk looking at next year's chemical 00:00:10 program, fertility program, trying to, uh, figure out a way to carve out a little margin. Uh, in this economy it's kind of difficult. 00:00:19 We've cut $40 out of our fertility plant. We've cut 10 or 15 pounds out of our nitrogen, our continued SAP analysis, uh, nitrogen assimilation. 00:00:30 We feel comfortable doing that. And now I'm looking at the herbicide program. You know, last year with UPL, we had a trial on Inva dx. 00:00:38 We used two rates, 16 and 20. The 16 ounce rate obviously was a little less expensive, but it didn't hold well enough 00:00:46 and, uh, we had to come back out and give a rescue treatment. The 20 ounce rate held especially good on water hemp, 00:00:53 which is our real problem weed. And it looks like the prices for next year, the Entra DX at the 20 ounce rate will be very competitive 00:01:01 relative to the other programs that we're looking at, um, in the area. And so Entra DX at a 20 ounce rate will be a, uh, a kind 00:01:09 of a no brainer for us in our corn herbicide program in 00:01:11.875 --> 00:01:12.475
