Farming Video | Boosting Chlorophyll & Plant Health with Kelly Garrett

17 Jul 253m 6s

Kelly Garrett of XtremeAg teams up with Pivot Bio reps to run a test comparing treated vs. untreated corn plots using G3. With just 40 pounds of N applied, they measure fresh weight, CCI (chlorophyll content), and plant biomass. While stalk diameter and leaf size didn’t show huge differences, the G3-treated plants clocked in at 5.3% higher chlorophyll content, suggesting stronger nutrient uptake and a healthier canopy. The team highlights how this aligns with Kelly’s philosophy of optimizing plant efficiency rather than simply packing in more nitrogen.

00:00:00 Hi, this is Kelly Garrett from Extreme Ag. We're out here at the field today looking at the G three product from Pivot with Alex and Nick. 00:00:07 They're gonna explain to you what we're doing here on this Reese Nevins test. So Today we're out here with Kelly Garrett 00:00:12 and we're gonna do a Reese Nevins test on our treated versus untreated acres out here 00:00:16 where we have just the 40 pounds in. So with this test, we get to look at the chlorophyll readings off of it as well as the biomass. 00:00:24 So what that is able to tell us is how much implant nitrogen we have. A lot of times what we've gotten to see, especially 00:00:30 with G three this year, is increase in chlorophyll as well as increase in biomass 00:00:34 with a pretty decent percentage usually in the teens, which is showing that we have a higher potential for a better yield with it. 00:00:41 So really looking forward to testing this, especially out here where we have just 40 pounds so we can really test how well these microbes are doing. 00:00:47 And so we're out here. I will tell you we're in the unapplied area right now. We counted the rows in. 00:00:53 This is the, uh, 40 pounds of end with no G three. This is the untreated area. Yep. And, uh, the corn's not as tall 00:01:01 and the leaves are not as green. That's my visual observation so far, but we'll have to take it out 00:01:06 there and weigh it and see what we see. Yeah, We'll, we'll cut five plants. What, uh, main things we start looking 00:01:10 for is just consistent spacing. Going to cut five plants right at the soil level. We'll go cut five plants in the treated side, 00:01:18 and then we'll get 'em out there and just look at 'em head to head, look at stock diameter leaf area, 00:01:23 and then start calculating our fresh weight and our CCI readings. So overall, um, 00:01:28 when we started looking at this in clearing stock diameters versus treated and untreated, it was almost kind of a wash. 00:01:34 We had some of our treated stocks looked a lot bigger than a couple of our others, but then we also had a couple 00:01:39 untreated stocks that also looked really well. Leaf area definitely looks pretty consistent for the most part. 00:01:45 Maybe a little wider leaves, but not by much. Overall length is pretty similar. But in return though, if we take that back to the practices 00:01:52 that Kelly is doing, I mean, he's setting these plants up for success so that they don't have a bad day. 00:01:57 So I'm not necessarily expecting to see a ginormous win in stock diameter leaf area per se. Um, but overall maybe a slight increase. 00:02:05 Um, just kinda waiting for these results come through to see how it turns out. Basically we recorded the fresh weights on both the grower 00:02:10 standard practice and on our, uh, tree product with the G three in it. Um, included in that, the fresh weights, 00:02:15 and then also the CCI or the chlorophyll content. And so that's gonna give us a good idea on how much more chlorophyll is present in the plant from the 00:02:22 Gen three product versus the grower standard practice. So, uh, what we ended up coming up with results here is, um, a little bit less in our implant nitrogen 00:02:32 and our fresh weight, which actually, if, if you follow Kelly Garrett's videos in his 95% assimilation like that follows suit, we don't necessarily want to have 00:02:41 a ton more implant vegetative nitrogen there. But then when you look at our chlorophyll content, we're 5.3% higher in the treated versus the untreated. 00:02:50 So what that's telling me is that we're able to pull in more nutrients, have a happier, healthier, greener plant, which sets our yield potential higher, 00:02:57 and that falls suit along with what Kelly is doing from 95% assimilation. 00:03:02.065 --> 00:03:02.185
