XtremeAg's Johnny Verell talks about the challenges in soybean fields planted in cold, wet conditions near a creek, which lead to high disease pressure. This season, he trialed a new product from Vive Crop Protection which uses encapsulated formulations to improve mixing and efficacy. He like's its potential to ensure strong, disease-free growth throughout the season.

00:00 Johnny Rell with extreme Ag. I'm out here today in one of the soybean fields we planted a few weeks ago and this creek bone is always one 00:05 of the last places we plant because it's always cold and it's always extremely wet. It's right on the side of the creek. 00:11 The creek gets out several times in the spring and it's always a battle we're facing. And when we're facing battles like that, 00:16 we're always having a high disease in the, in the plants, whether it's corn or soybeans. 00:20 And this year I was able to trial a product with VI crop protection. You know, a lot of people haven't heard of that company. 00:24 And I got to looking into it and they use a lot of products that we were already using. They just figured out how to make 'em better. 00:29 They figured out how to encapsulate 'em so that they're easy to mix. And along those lines, you know, 00:33 we're all using these infer programs to really help push the yield and help get that top end yield outta these crops. 00:38 And a lot of times we do that, mixing fungicides and stuff like that with those products do not work at all. And you get a cottage cheese look to your, 00:46 to your infer system and it stops up all your filters and just cause you a lot of headaches. A lot of times you have to dump it 00:52 or you have to put it back into a tank and really circulate it. You know, one thing that caught my eye on this is this 00:57 product here, you dump it straight into your infer products. You don't have to mix it with water 01:02 and then put it in solution with your infer system. You go straight in, their raw product, goes straight into your infer program and it mixes 01:09 and it stays in solution. And that's a big thing nowadays. 'cause a lot of times we'll start planting 01:13 and get rained out and that stuff has to be set and it start separating, start gelling, just start making a mess. 01:18 They've got an encapsulated version and it's unreal. This year I used asteroid fc. The FC sent it for fertilized compatible. 01:25 And it is it's, it is unreal. What it's able to do, quadrats is the product that they've actually figured out how to encapsulate. 01:29 Instead of being at a two pound rate like quadrats per gallon, it's actually over three pounds of active material in a gallon of concentration. 01:37 So you get a lot higher concentration. You can reduce your rates. And you know, one thing I love about it, these roots here, 01:43 even when they're in this wet condition where it stays muddy all the time, we have really no ceiling disease right now in these plants. 01:48 So if we could start off strong and finish strong without that ceiling disease, that's a big deal. 01:52 And you we're hoping to see a season long approach to this and really help keep that plant healthy going into grain 01:57 fill.
