Farming Video | Sesame Harvest Success

Todd Kimbrell’s sesame harvest turned out easier and more productive than expected. With clean cutting and smooth fieldwork, yields pushed close to 500 lbs. Now he’s thinking it deserves a permanent place after wheat. Even with rain-soaked low spots, overall results were strong—and management was low fuss.

00:00:00 Todd Kimbrel, extreme Ag, A little sesame post harvest wrap up video. Uh, sesame Harvest is over. Been over a little bit. 00:00:08 We've been busy. Uh, super easy harvest. We're a little concerned with combine settings and operations of the field and all that. 00:00:17 Super easy. Uh, didn't even have to use any duct tape to tape anything up on these machines. Uh, we blew right through it. 00:00:24 Harvest speed was fast, six to seven miles an hour. Uh, a little head loss, but with the, with shattering, but it wasn't bad. 00:00:32 Worked, worked just fine. Uh, yield was good between four 50 and 500 pounds. Uh, going in. I thought if we made 500, I would celebrate. 00:00:42 So we were close enough. I thought it was great. I guess the one point that everybody wants to know, we do it again, we'll definitely do it again 00:00:49 and it'll probably become part of our wheat plan. So if we plant wheat, we'll just intend on planting sesame, double crop. 00:00:58 Another little takeaway is yield was good, and I have had a lot of people tell me, man, if you didn't get all that summer rain, 00:01:06 you wouldn't have made as good. Well, I think it's the opposite of that. I think we had too much rain this summer 00:01:11 because the low spots didn't yield as good as the high spots. Typically not the case here where we farm Central Texas, 00:01:18 but that's exactly what happened this year. So maybe a little more normal-ish summer with a couple of timely rains. 00:01:25 I think the yield could be a lot better. Management, super easy. Uh, even, you know, one 00:01:30 of my big concerns going in was wheat control. Super easy. We did a real good burn, ju burn down shot at planning, which we were a little late. 00:01:40 Uh, I think we were around the 20th of June before we got it in. Normally we'd like to be a little bit ahead of that. 00:01:47 Uh, and that did cause us to come off a little later than we'd typically like to. It was, you know, early, mid-December 00:01:53 before we got in there to get it out. So, uh, lots of things to take away. Overall, very pleased, would definitely do it again. 00:02:01 Uh, highly recommend. Just takes a little more open-mindedness to manage it, but great crop, neat crop fun to look at. 52 00:02:09.855 --> 00:02:10.965
