Farming Video | Boosts ROI in Double-Crop Soybeans with Smart Foliar Strategy

26 Aug 254m 3s

When August rains hit the Carolinas, it’s game time for double-crop soybeans. Kevin Matthews joins Jason Worley from Nachurs to break down how to make those rains count—with the right foliar products and proper timing. From targeting the R1 to R4 stages to using phosphorus and micronutrients like molybdenum, they lay out a strategy to keep pods on and grow big seed. Kevin keeps it practical: if it doesn’t pay, don’t spray. They discuss how Triple Option supports bloom retention and how Finish Line delivers vital micros economically—with no antagonism in the tank. For growers looking to make double-crop beans profitable, this video is a must-watch.

00:00:00 So we're out here and Mr. Jason Worley and I, we've been working together. It's been a long time, Jason. 00:00:04 It has, it has been a long, been some good times. It's been a good time. And uh, the, the biggest thing is you've never been a salesman to me. 00:00:10 You, you've tried to get me the right agronomic that was gonna make money for the farm and, and you've been pretty open. 00:00:16 If I didn't need to use a product, just don't use it. It ain't, it ain't gonna make you no money. Well you gotta find out the products that works. 00:00:22 So if you're sitting back and you look at a bean crop or any crop in general mm-hmm. You gotta find the things that work. 00:00:27 You can't have an array of things, but things that you sit back and Speaking of working, you know, in the Carolinas, 00:00:33 if we get August rains, we typically have good beans, especially double crop soys. We've been blessed with some pretty good rains here 00:00:39 and we got some rains in the forecast and these double crop soybeans right now, most of 'em in that R one, R two. 00:00:45 So we need to get 'em, these are R four or better. So we need to get 'em set up to head into this stage. What, what would be a good thing. 00:00:51 And if it's some weeds in there, we need to take care of them weeds and one chop pass might have some insects we need to look into. 00:00:57 True. So what fertility products could we go in that could really help retain these, these pods and put the seed in these pods and get 'em set up 00:01:05 and ready for that R four transition and build that seed size. So when you talk about that, Kevin, 00:01:10 the main thing we talk about retention. Retention, a phosphorus is a big thing on that. So triple option would be a good product 00:01:15 to look at on the foliar side coming in. Yeah. But how much, I mean how much, I ain't got much money beans. 00:01:19 I mean dang that day, right? It's about under $10 Now. So let's look at a gallon to a gallon 00:01:23 and a half being the max on that side because if you look at the efficiency side of that, I meant you got this product going directly into that plant. 00:01:30 So we're trying to eat that phosphorous to hold that, that that bloom set. But, but when we're going to put that in there 00:01:35 and we got that nitrogen particle in there, we want everything that needs to ride on that coattail. So what micros should I add when I go in there? 00:01:42 'cause I'm, if I'm gonna drive through the beans, I'm gonna throw some micros in there. Finish line maybe 00:01:47 Finish line, finish line. So that's a good product. I'm gonna tell you finish line is a product. 00:01:51 It's, it is versatile going anything. Well, No. We run into a court to the acre and it's pretty economical. 00:01:55 Mm-hmm. Buying it like that. And uh, and we've not had any antagonism with other, anything we've ever used with it. 00:02:02 They Somali in there too. And that and that, Molly really, the soybeans really love it and it's, it's kind of the underrated and overlooked. 00:02:10 Molly's one thing. We look at samples, we never look at Molly on a sample. Guess what we've started doing now? 00:02:16 It's a big component for nitrogen fixation and various things like that. That's right. So they've got to keep Molly in there. 00:02:21 There's many other things we need to look at. We got a fulvic in there that really helps us, helps us. When you were talking about some other 00:02:26 add-ons, some ride-alongs. We don't want to get a burn on a plant because what happens when you get a burn, 00:02:31 you get lesion, you get disease. Well, I mean, double crops. We can't do anything to slow the growth down. No. 00:02:35 We gotta get it. We, we gotta get to the that right previous line as quick as we can. Yeah, well man, I appreciate that. Um, yeah, but 00:02:41 Like I said, that would be as far As, you know, we're fixing to pull the trigger here in the Carolinas on a lot of these, 00:02:46 on this uh, post emerge spray. And what kind of is there, is it pretty readily available? Most stuff in stock, 00:02:52 We got it all. You just make the call, we get it here. Triple option finish line and we got some other things, but we get, we really try to tailor what we're going after 00:03:01 As a grower. We really need to know our growth stages so we can key component, communicate that to you so we can get the right product. 00:03:08 It's just, you can, it's just not one product. Fix all. Exactly. 'cause you can actually take a product, applied it, the wrong growth stage. See, no, you know, 00:03:14 I've done that. I Believe everybody has, I've done that. A lot of products got a bad name for that. 00:03:18 But now that's one thing we really try hard and you guys do as well. We know the growth stage. We know what we're going at. 00:03:24 That's a different recipe for every one of 'em. All righty. If you have any questions, 00:03:28 just shoot us an email at stream ag and we will answer that question. And uh, if you don't know who to get in touch with, 00:03:34 if we can't get you with one of their products, we'll get you with something that we've proven that's just as good or maybe better. 00:03:41 Don't know if they are anything better. Jason says he ain't but knows. But, uh, but bottom line is we want you 00:03:46 to make money on your farm and ROIs where it's at and there's not one product fits all. And that's one thing I like about 00:03:54 they will tell you it takes a team approach to make this happen. 00:03:57.935 --> 00:03:58.525
