Farming Video | How Matt Miles Tackles Nitrogen Loss in Wet Years

29 May 252m 19s

In this field update, Matt Miles gives a firsthand look at corn development in the Delta and shares why Pivot Bio is part of his nitrogen management plan. With 36 years of experience under his belt, Matt explains how unpredictable weather and sandy soils have made this the wettest season for nitrogen application he's ever seen. Despite the challenges, he shows how Pivot Bio's biological nitrogen source delivers consistent results, especially in years when leaching threatens traditional nitrogen programs. For farmers facing similar struggles, this is a practical look at how staying ahead of nitrogen loss can make all the difference.

00:00:00 So I just cut this plant off right at the base and you can see. First thing I wanna show you 00:00:07 is definitely no nitrogen deficiency. Uh, this plant, you know, is in pretty good shape. It's got a little bit of herbicide energy from all the 00:00:14 Gramoxone that's, that's in our area. But, uh, for the most part it looks pretty good. The G'S good. Uh, we're about 00:00:22 four leafs from tassel. I just, I just checked that too. Here's the tassel, so it's not long from coming out. 00:00:28 What I wanna talk to you about today is the, uh, you know, the benefits of using the, uh, the Pivot Bio product 00:00:34 to proven, you know, we've been testing this product now for multiple, multiple years here in the Delta on 00:00:40 light sandy soils. I'm in my 36 crop and, uh, in my 36 crops, this has been the absolute wettest, um, time we've had to get out our nitrogen. 00:00:51 So, you know, March was a good, uh, march for planting. We did really good. Got a, got a lot of our crops in, they look decent, uh, steel. 00:00:59 But the problem we've had since then is being able to get our applications out. So we start with a, you know, pre-plant streamer, um, 00:01:06 application and ITing. And then we have two side dresses with the wide drops that hadn't happened on all the corn issue. 00:01:11 Now this corn fortunately got two applications of the Sidedress wide drop, but if there's ever been a year where 00:01:18 a product like Pivot is gonna pay off, it's gonna be this year. Lots of leaching. Uh, if you're using synthetic nitrogen, 00:01:24 you don't know where it's at. You know, did it, did it wash away? Did it go deeper in the soil? 00:01:29 And the one thing about the pivot product is, you know, you can count on, you know, the units that you've got there. So some of our corn that's not quite this old, 00:01:37 maybe 10 days later than this, 15 days later than this, it's been so wet that all we got was a pre-owned. So we've had to re revert to an airplane, use ure, 00:01:46 ammonia sulfate, different things like that just to try to get some nitrogen to the plant. That's one thing that makes me sleep at night is we do have 00:01:54 the pivot product on there. And we do know after years of testing that, that it does make nitrogen and it does keep the plant going. 00:02:00 And as you can tell from this plant, um, you know, it's in pretty good shape. So, so it's a company you probably need to check out 00:02:06 because if you're in light soils like us and have a problem with nitrogen leaching and, and, and running out the ends, uh, it's a great product 57 00:02:14.075 --> 00:02:14.575
