Farming Video | Boosting Pasture Yields with Grazing Strategies

17 May 251m 27s

Kelly Garrett from XtremeAg shares an on-the-ground look at their intensive rotational grazing program. They're working with a nine-way cover crop mix that includes oats, peas, brassicas, and cabbages, aiming to improve pasture health and beef quality. With hot, dry conditions and a chance of rain, they’re curious to see if this fertility boost will increase forage quality and quantity.

5+ Years - Grower Standard Practice

00:00:00 Hi, this is Kelly Garrett from XT Extreme Ag. We're out here in the intensive rotational grazing today. This is a spot where TJ gave us the nine way mix, you know, 00:00:07 with the, the oats, the peas, the brassicas, the cabbages, things like that. It's coming up nice. Uh, some 00:00:13 of the perennials are up last year, some of the rise, things like that. We've got the cows out here, uh, 00:00:18 getting ready to take 'em off. I put 'em on here on Saturday. This is Monday trying to take down the rye perennials 00:00:25 to allow the new growth to come up. Richie and Patter, both out here with the sprayers, we had some extra fertility left over couple hundred 00:00:32 acres from corn planting. We've got impulse, Moneyball and Kfl from Tommy. At Nature's. We've got backbone 00:00:39 and BioE from our friends that calibrated agronomy. And we've also got ultra zinc from spray tech from Drew and Nate. 00:00:46 And in the effort to raise more cattle per acre and in the effort to raise better nutrient dense beef, we're trying to pay more attention to the, uh, 00:00:55 to the grass just like we do the corn. The cattle are very profitable right now and we're trying to run more cows per acre. 00:01:02 I don't know what will happen with this experiment. Uh, we're interested to see if this will, uh, spruce up the growing, you know, it's hot and dry. 00:01:08 There's a chance of rain coming. Will this increase the forage quantity? Will this increase the forage quality? 00:01:14 I would sure think it would increase both, but we've never tried this before. Really interested to see what goes on here 37 00:01:19.745 --> 00:01:21.925
