Farming Video | Boosting Cotton Yields with Source by SoundAg

31 Jul 251m 39s

Johnny Verell of XtremeAg shares how his farm is using Source from SoundAg to push cotton yields higher. While his farm has mostly transitioned from cotton to grain, Johnny continues cotton trials at field days to test products and strategies. Source has become a trusted part of his soybean and corn systems—and now, cotton too. It enhances phosphorus uptake, which in turn helps bring in more potassium and sulfur, nutrients critical to cotton. With consistent 75–100 lb yield bumps, Source is proving its value. Johnny and his team are also testing how it pairs with other products to maximize ROI and possibly cut back on fertility inputs.

00:00:00 Johnny Verell the extreme ag. You know, we're always talking about products that we're trialing on our farm and stuff. 00:00:04 And you know, back 15 years ago, our farm is pretty much a hundred percent cotton and we've transitioned to pretty much all grain now, 00:00:11 but we still do a lot of plots at our field day. We keep cotton in it every year. And it's mainly to learn and see what we can do 00:00:16 to manipulate that cotton plant and push it to that next level. And you know, we've been using source 00:00:22 from Sound Ag on our soybeans and corn for the last four or five years. Now. It's a standard practice. 00:00:27 We do several plots out there at the field A with source on the cotton, you know, and it kind of does the same thing, you know, source. 00:00:33 It just really helps activate that plant to help pull in more nutrients and stuff like that. But it also, you know, 00:00:38 the big nutrients pulling in is phosphorus, cotton likes phosphorus, it needs phosphorus, but it really loves potassium. 00:00:43 And what we've learned is it seems to always kind of go hand in hand. If you can get the phosphorus uptake 00:00:48 to increasing the plant, you'll also be pulling in more potassium and stuff like that. Cotton needs sulfur. It helps with sulfur. 00:00:54 It helps some of the other micronutrients also. But you know, the big takeaway for us is, is the yield. It's all about the ROI and stuff like that. 00:01:00 And we pretty much consistently usually get anywhere from 75 to a hundred pound yield increase 00:01:04 by using the source on the cotton. So it's not out here about talking about all these products that do and don't work. 00:01:09 We really try to hone in on the ones that do work. Sources work very good for us last few years. Like I said, we're continuing to do trials with it mainly 00:01:16 to see how Source works with other products. Because we know Source is working on our farm, we're always getting these other products that we're trying 00:01:21 to trial and see if we can get to the next level or if we can reduce more fertility or different things like that. 00:01:26 So Source is pretty much just the way we're able to do that. So we'll keep you posted 00:01:30 on the yield that we're having this year. Come out and see us at the field day. 00:01:33.295 --> 00:01:34.385
