18 Jul 253m 31s

Waterhemp is one of the most stubborn, herbicide-resistant weeds row crop farmers face, and it’s only getting worse. In this video, Kelly Garrett and UPL’s Kurt Sloss talk with Damian Mason about a new pre-emergent herbicide called Intrava DX, currently being trialed at Garrett’s farm. With atrazine restrictions growing and cover crop systems on the rise, farmers need effective new options.

00:00:00 Do you battle water hemp? If you are a row crop farmer in the United States of America, chances are you do, 00:00:05 and if not, you soon will. It is a herbicide resistant problem brought on by 30 years of glyphosate. 00:00:11 One might say overuse. I'm talking to my friend Kurt Sloss and Kelly Garrett, he's with UPL. 00:00:17 We might have an answer here that's being trialed at Kelly Garrett's farm. During your field day, you're gonna be talking about this. 00:00:23 We've got a resistant problem, it's getting worse. And we also have a regulatory environment, Kelly, where we might be taking atrazine away from us, 00:00:31 which means post applied herbicides are gonna get even more outgunned on things like water hemp. 00:00:36 Absolutely. And water. Two things. Waterhemp is our biggest problem. We have trouble controlling it 00:00:41 and we've already eliminated atrazine on our farm, right? Because of the cover crops 00:00:45 and the intensive rotational grazing, the residual just was holding it back too much. So we're looking for other solutions on how 00:00:51 to control the water hemp and allow the, uh, cover crops to thrive. Mr. Sloss, you're a company called UPL. 00:00:57 You've got a product, I can't remember the name of it, but you said a neat thing about it. It's not an atrazine based product, it is a pre-emergent 00:01:04 and also it's going to make it so you're not battling that water hemp, you know, a month and two months down the road. 00:01:09 Correct. We have a product called Entra DX that is being launched this year. Kelly was nice enough to try some of it for us, 00:01:18 and we got excellent results on water emp control on his ground and throughout Iowa, Illinois, 00:01:24 Indiana across the whole corn belt. We have this product on display and several different plots. I 00:01:30 Appreciate as an Iowan that you included my home state of Indiana. Our camera will commonly calls Indiana a not real ice date. 00:01:36 And I gotta tell you something, it kind of p****s me off. So thank you. So anyway, let's go back to this. 00:01:41 It's only June 26th. We could still absolutely have a waterhemp problem by August 1st because it grows like that. 00:01:48 How confident are you that something like this is gonna handle it without any remediation needed? We're pretty confident at the stage the corn is at now 00:01:55 because it's canopy the rose, things like that. Mm-hmm. Kurt and I have been out there in the field. We haven't seen anything coming. 00:02:01 The residual is working and we are very confident at this point. This doesn't get better. It only gets worse. 00:02:06 This water hemp is kind of like we created the Frankenstein and it's here. This Is a great foundation product for the Frankenstein weed 00:02:13 of Waterhemp, but you're still gonna be in a sequential market. So this is your foundation as you build a house 00:02:19 and build something great and then, and then come back post emergence like Kelly did. Yeah. On his ground to clean it up, to get you 00:02:26 to the canopy to be weed free. And this is our Worst herbicide resistant problem, isn't it? In my opinion. It is. Yes. Yeah. 00:02:32 Got it. Your name is Kurt Sloss. You are with UPLA maker of this product called Entrada. Where do I go to find out more about this? 00:02:40 I go to our u uh, website. U Ltd is a great spot to go to and, uh, talk to your local retailers like Kelly here 00:02:50 and tune in to Extreme Act. I love it. Thanks for the plug. All right. His name's Kelly Garrett. His name is Curtis Laws. 00:02:55 I'm Dave Mason coming at you June 26th, 2025. You know what we do Field days at all of our, uh, extreme Ag guys place. 00:03:02 There's is stop number three. We're gonna be going to in August to Johnny Verell. We're gonna go to Kevin Matthews. 00:03:07 We're gonna go even to Canada up there, north the border to Sam Confused. And we're gonna wrap things up at, uh, temple Roads at the, 00:03:13 uh, third week of August in Maryland. Go to Extreme ag.farm and Register. They're free to attend. We want you to do this because you know what, 00:03:19 it's all about bringing information to you to help you farm better. So next time, Damian Mason, coming at you from Western Iowa 96 00:03:25.265 --> 00:03:26.805
