Averland Nematicide Trial on Cotton: Affordable and Effective Root-Knot Nematode Control
At one-third the cost of the competitive product Matt Miles talks about the results of a cotton trial that delivered a 27-pound yield increase per acre compared.
00:00 Hey guys, I just wanted to do a kind of end of the year, um, report on, uh, one of the companies we work 00:00:07 with called Vive Vi's got a bunch of different products that they took and some of 'em they reformulated, some of 'em are new products, but we actually concentrated on one 00:00:16 product, which is the name of the product is Alan, and it was for Root Knot nematodes. When we were talking to, to vi about different products 00:00:24 and different things they had going on. The, the word root knot nematode was mentioned, which is a big deal for us down here in the Delta on some 00:00:31 of our sandier soils. So we started looking at the product, we started looking mainly at the price of the product, 00:00:37 which was about a third of the price of what we were currently using. Uh, we're currently using a product called Vellum 00:00:44 and VI was a product that came in there that is about the third of the cost of Vellum. And uh, you know, with their data they had showed 00:00:52 before was supposed to be, you know, as good if not better than the product we were using. 00:00:58 So with a lot of research, we did a lot of research. Uh, the, the company gave us names of people to talk to, you know, 'cause that's a big deal when you go 00:01:06 to change from one product to the other. If you're not a hundred percent sure what's going on, you really need some advice from some people 00:01:12 that used it in the past. And, uh, so I did my homework, went and talked to several different producers 00:01:18 that had used this product, everland in the past. And, you know, all I got was positive results from all of 'em. 00:01:24 Even one company that didn't sell the product was actually a proponent of the product or thought it was a good deal even 00:01:30 though that the guy, he was an agronomist, but even though he didn't sell the product, he said, you know, that product will probably 00:01:37 work for what you're looking for. So we applied the, uh, Alan patiently waited till the end of the year to see what happened. 00:01:44 And I've got my notes here. So we, we did our, we did our different studies. So on the Cotton, we had a 27 pound increase 00:01:52 between the competitive product of Vela and the everland. And we had a 53 pound increase between the check 00:02:00 with nothing and the everland. So both of those trials won a hundred percent. And you know, when we're looking at 27 pounds, you can do 00:02:07 that by, you know, even in today's market, say 70. So you're looking at about a 20, you know, a 20 plus dollars increase per acre on a product 00:02:16 that's one third of the cost of the competitive product. So all in all, uh, the Alan is something that we'll 00:02:24 probably use a hundred percent next year. You know, root knots are a, a this year was probably as, as bad as they've ever been in the past. 00:02:31 We actually come out pretty good. I heard some horror stories on some of the yields where people planted a root knot resistant 00:02:37 and still had, you know, subpar yields. We planted the root knot, resistant variety, added the Alan to it, which is an extra trip. 00:02:45 But, uh, the ROI was was pretty good for us there. So this is one of the products that we tested this year with Extreme Ag that I'm super excited for. 00:02:54 They've got a lot of other products and a lot of the other guys, they've trialed those products and some different trials, you know, 00:03:00 across the United States, but we concentrated on the Root knot nematode piece and you know, what the company told me versus what the, 00:03:07 what the product did, you know, it exceeded my expectations. So, uh, if you're looking for a product 00:03:13 to compete against some of these higher costing root knot nematode products, a hundred percent recommend Vive in that. 00:03:20 And if you want come by and see, you know, what we're doing, we're gonna put it on, if not a hundred percent of our acres, the majority 00:03:27 of our acres, we'll probably flip this from, you know, testing the product we've been using. You know, we whole hog that testing against the VI product 00:03:37 to going to mainly whole hog the VI product and testing against the competitive product just to make sure that, you know, 00:03:44 our data is what we think it is.
