What Is One Thing You Would Change On Your Farm? | The Granary

21 Jan 2528m 52s

If a genie granted you a magic wand, what would you change about your farm? From better soil and cooler nights to being fully irrigated, Damian Mason asks Temple Rhodes, Chad Henderson and Matt Miles from XtremeAg about the tweaks they would make to revolutionize their operations—if only it were that simple.

But it’s not all wishful thinking! They dig deep into why changes, even magical ones, come with a ripple effect. Alter the weather? Say goodbye to cotton. Upgrade your soil? Time to relearn everything from scratch. Relinquishing control, optimizing equipment, and even battling urban sprawl—this episode has it all, including some good-natured ribbing and real insights into farm-life challenges.

Pour a drink, grab a seat, and get ready to laugh, learn, and appreciate the delicate balance of farming.

Special thanks to Nachurs for sponsoring this episode and keeping the conversation real.

00:00:00 Ask a farmer and There are changes they would make to their farm. There's changes they do make and can make practices, inputs, 00:00:08 but there's changes they can't make. What changes would you make if I said it's a gene, a bottle kind of thing? 00:00:15 I'm pulling off this miracle here, guys. You can make this change for the betterment of your entire farming 00:00:22 Operation. What would it be? That's what I'm talking about with my friends temple. Matt and Chad, In this episode of the Green on 00:00:29 A Farm, the work's never really done. We're calling the day anyway because my friends from extreme Ag coming over You ready 00:00:36 for a conversation with some real farmers about real issues? And the best part, you are invited. 00:00:42 So pour yourself a drink, grab a snack. Most importantly, pull up a chair. Welcome to the greenery. Hey 00:00:52 Guys. All right. The fun part of this show is you don't know the topic until I introduce it. 00:01:04 And that's kind of cool because I think that the viewer needs to understand how much scripting is there. 00:01:08 Zero scripts. Well, That's the same way with our videos though. Well, we don't ever know that topic until we see it. 00:01:14 So yeah, this ain't nothing Fred, just toss the topic out there. It's not just one thing. It could be multiple things you can 00:01:19 change about your farm person. You guys change your inputs, you change your practice. Since I started working for you, 00:01:24 you've changed things from here to here to here to here, but there's stuff you can't change. 00:01:29 What would you change that you can't? I think everybody already knows my answer before I'm gonna say it. 00:01:34 I actually don't. I don't, I have no idea. Know you're gonna say it. I would definitely change my soul 00:01:39 and I would definitely change my temperatures. If I could do those two things, then I could farm like these. 00:01:46 Are we talking about a change that you know, that you can make or a cant make? Then you Can't, one, I, I give you a magic wand 00:01:53 because there's the wands you already are doing, you guys are doing a heck of a job every day of this didn't work. 00:01:59 Um, I'm gonna try this. New products, Chad's down there every day is a new experiment, but the stuff, you know, you can't change. 00:02:07 But I give you a magic wand, a Chad, what's the magic wand thing you're Going do? You're going have to, I'm 00:02:12 going, I'm gonna have to phone a friend on that one. 'cause I'm still thinking like there's so many things running through my mind 00:02:17 right now that I wanna change. Okay, give you one of 'em and then, but then, but then really do I wanna change it? 00:02:22 Because when you change one thing, then what else are you changing? Everything Behind It? Everything. So 00:02:26 then you don't know nothing again. Like you thought you knew something and then you don't know. You ain't gotta start over. Oh no, start, no back. 00:02:32 Hey, I'll just stay where I'm at. What happens if you went back to what you can change and probably won't because of, 00:02:41 because of That's the question. That's, that's a question. Harder question. What I can change but won't is me step back 00:02:47 and let some other people have some input. That's my biggest problem. It's probably one of all of our problems. 00:02:54 Control, because we will not relinquish control. We had a control issue. 'cause I, I was called a control freak when Demon came up. 00:03:01 He wanted go run my combine. Actually, it wasn't even his combine, it wasn't Even his combine. It 00:03:05 belonged one of our sponsors and he was acting like it was his Was my ho. I'm 00:03:10 gonna tell you something. I did lose my time. I'm gonna tell you I was ready to lose My what will change that and mad probably about for this. 00:03:17 If it's your kid in there, you won't let 'em run that combine when they that big 'cause you'll get off a row. You know, we still trying to make payments on this stuff. 00:03:25 Well, but if your grandkid jumps in there, you don't care if he crosses six rows, you don't care what I mean. 00:03:29 You don't even care. Like ling get in there and I'm be like, clunk, clunk, clunk. We'll come back and get it. Just don just don't even 00:03:36 mind like running A tree. Run it a tree. Okay, we'll fix that. I'm gonna give you that magic wand 00:03:41 Again and I gotta change it. Well, you Don't have to. I like Temple's idea of the things that you won't change. 00:03:45 And that mostly comes down to control. By the way, you're not telling, you're not only farmer. When you said that, the person watching this, 00:03:50 there's a farm wife watching this that said, oh my god, Larry, we're talking about you. You won't give 'em control either. Everyone watching this, 00:04:00 But, but we could make our farms way more successful if you, you take a little bit of, um, initiative and you go to make that step 00:04:08 and you start to relinquish some of it and you just give them the control of the side of whatever they're good at, right? 00:04:14 Yeah. If they have something that they're really good at, you give them that control. 00:04:18 You did it with lean. I'm in the middle Of it now. You, You, you're right in the middle of it. Right in the middle of that. And 00:04:22 I'm in the middle of it as well. And I'm right now where I am. The ones like Alexander, he's good at certain things 00:04:28 and now I've got to the point, I ask him, what do you wanna do? What do you wanna do? There you go. 00:04:34 You, you stepped across that line. When you step across that. Now the hard thing is, is when he says what that is, 00:04:41 and I'm like, you don't want to do it down during that. You know what I mean? And I, and me and him get in an argument but can't do that. I I 00:04:46 Did that in 1982. Lemme tell you how it worked for me. You we're the gang. We need to let him make that mistake. Well, 00:04:53 I've got another point where I let him, uh, what do you wanna do? Well, I wanna do this. Alright, we'll do this. 00:04:58 I do want you to know that I've done this before and it it didn't work out for me. Maybe it'll work for you. So, and he'll 00:05:05 and he'll be like, well maybe so what happened? And I would tell him the answer. You know, I'm in the middle of that. 00:05:10 Now the difference may in me and you, I'm to the point now where I want to back up and and lose control. 00:05:18 I wanna be able to go like, this is my goal. I wanna be able to go shop when I want to and I wanna be able to go home when I want to. Yeah. 00:05:26 And you said you wanna lose control. You really meant you want to continue to seed to, to give up certain bits of control. 00:05:33 Well, the difference between I got him, the difference between him and I is he wants to lose control. Like he wants to lose the control part and hand it over. 00:05:41 If I hand it over, I will lose control here. Like I'm Going to lose two different Controls. There's Two different controls. I'm the second one. 00:05:49 I started this four or five years ago. You started it last year. Yeah, you're right. So I've got three 00:05:54 Years and you told me you coached me on how to get to that point and I am doing that. So Look how, look how he's doing P lane slow, okay? 00:06:02 He's wants to lose control, but yet he goes and picks up 1500 acres here. Now wait a minute. When here's 00:06:08 I add to Deplete. Now let's look, I gave up a eight 50. That's You, you right, you Still gained. 00:06:15 I did gain. And now wait a minute. So we did you other Farm right beside your other farm or 30 Miles from home. No, you're right. That's 00:06:20 true. You're right. I mean that. But maybe I'm helping you see the whole picture, right? Maybe I'm trying to slow your planter down. 00:06:26 Lemme ask you this question just minute. Like I told y'all like I talked, I done told y'all Once. I 00:06:31 Talked once on the previous episode. Can you go through that one? Because that's what has helped me get to the point 00:06:38 of relinquishing some control. That saying that you have, I'm, you're, I'm a told you one more time, overmanaged 00:06:45 or under whatever that thing is, over cropped or undermanaged. You're either one of the two, you're either over cropped 00:06:50 or undermanaged. In my case I could or your Or your both. That's what about number three? 00:06:56 What is number three? I mean, you may be over equipment. That's somebody else though. We know 00:07:04 Him. I ain't pointing fingers. I mean you just pointing fingers. I mean ask Damian to goat. 00:07:09 He's good at pointing fingers back. Wait a minute. Back to the question at hand. We never did. We never did. I wanna get back to the genie. Jim 00:07:14 Said. Jim said there's the changes you could make but you won't. And he said, I really like sitting beside him. 00:07:20 What's the changes made? What the, the change, the changes that you could make, but you won't. 00:07:24 And then we'll go back to the genie. Okay. So I would like to be like Matt be a hundred percent irrigated. 00:07:29 Okay? I would like to know that if my, you know, I can have grain bin. Let's just talk about grain. 00:07:33 You know, we can talk about cotton or we can talk about grain. But let's just talk about, you know, the, the two, 00:07:38 the things that's made our farm the most money is having the grain bins and irrigation. So when we have the irrigation 00:07:45 and we have the grain bins, it allows Stewart to make the decisions that he can make an educated decision because Bart marketing bar a natural disaster. 00:07:53 He knows we're gonna make X. That's right. Yeah. You know, and you can make that decision and he can make that decision. 00:07:59 12 months. And I joke him all the time, like he's making decisions 13 months outta the year, but he is making decisions 24 months. 00:08:04 Yeah. You know, 12, 15, 16, 18, 20 months Time I've talked to to um, Stewart and Stewart might be marketing three different, 00:08:14 um, years of crop. So of just Go about this. If you had the soil and the temperatures, you wouldn't need irrigation. 00:08:20 That's what I'm talking about. So say you it is and that's what we talked about magic wand part the start with, you know, well if I get one, do I have to give one up? 00:08:28 So you brought that up a bit ago and I think that's okay, the magic wand. But the other one that you said this very uh, dead on you, 00:08:36 you say, okay, I gave my magic wand and I can make this change now all of a sudden gets cooler nights and warmer, you know, cooler days 00:08:43 and then he gets better soil And, and then the car don't dry down. Well the thing is he's gonna have to make 93 more change. 00:08:49 It's, you'll think of, you know, like when they threw a mongoose into Australia or whatever the hell it was. 00:08:53 Do you understand Into the, where this man would go mentally if he was like farmers in Iowa, like Kelly 00:09:00 or even like Kevin that's still got corn in the field, maybe, you know, or or beans. Do you understand mentally 00:09:06 where he would be right now if corn was still in the field? I wouldn't be here. He was 00:09:11 Frank Do that. How would I be here? I mean, you know what I'm saying? Like the good Lord put us where we needed 00:09:16 to be and what we needed to be there. This Is what you can handle. That's why me and you ain't got what we ain't got. 00:09:22 You know what I mean? Like, you know when you know. Yeah. I mean, but you're right. You take the first time I came 00:09:26 to your place and I was like, wait a Minute, wait a minute. The first time Matt's been over there about 25 times. 00:09:33 I've been like half a time and he's been, you've Been my twice and I've been to his How many times you been to Matt's? Um, 00:09:41 Counting? Not spiritually. Zero Mentally. I've been there with him multiple times. But spiritually. Physically? Yeah. Spiritually. And, and you 00:09:49 Needed there Mind what? I think it's like, but it's probably not like that saw picture one 00:09:56 Some point in time when Caroline called and said, Hey I can get these flights 'cause I fly all the time. 00:10:01 Me and Temple are gonna come down there and we can pick us up at the airport with Sta day or so go back. 00:10:05 I'm like, heck yeah. Well he wouldn't do it. He Painted a quick hitch That day. He painted a quick hit. I probably did. 00:10:11 So man, he was soaring his boat. Man. Can we get Back to a topic What I was going That, you know, he got mad over me using 00:10:16 them bowls to crack him. Lobsters. Did he really? Yeah, half Them people took 'em home. They were grade eights too. Oh, I 00:10:24 Was there. I I got one. Yeah, No doubt. It's in our shop. Who Does that? All right, see 00:10:29 Chaz got a brilliant point. You, you do the magic wand thing and you know, all of a sudden that changes nine more things 00:10:37 that you were not anticip and then you Don't again, we're back 20 years ago and you don't know nothing. I'm use a bleeper right here. You don't know beep. 00:10:45 I got anymore. Like you started all over. Yeah. I'll give you a magic wand. All of a sudden I give him different, 00:10:50 different weather and different soil. Okay. That's nice. And You know, free the deal by the way. 00:10:54 And now you know what else you, you're outta the cotton business. You've been in the cotton business since you were a baby 00:11:00 because you just changed your weather. I don't mean every bit of the weather. I get a genie. Okay, cool nights, warm days 00:11:09 and 18 foot of top soil with water holding capacity where I don't have irrigate. That's what I'm saying. Okay. Those You still are 00:11:17 In cotton. Yeah, cotton. If you look at, look at Arizona where you Stay king. That's 00:11:22 what I was finn to say. They have a, they have a hundred degree days and they have 50 degree nights 00:11:28 and they grow five bell cotton. I'm giving you a magic run, run through a picker five mile an hour. 00:11:34 What? You gotta, What I would do, I, I wanna farm. And I'm not saying that it ain't easy 'cause I it it's not. 'cause again, you change one thing, 00:11:44 you got nine more behind them. I'd like to farm in the Midwest. If I could have done everything all over again, 00:11:51 I would've left the farm where I farm at when I was a young man. Yep. And I would've started a career somewhere else. 00:11:57 He's right. Hey, hey. Can I, No question. You can't Cut in. It's my turn story. I ask you. You can't talk right now 00:12:04 On a rebuttal to this. Me too. Both Of you. You get as soon as I'm done. Alright. Who goes first? 00:12:08 Because, and here's why. If you can have top soil that's, that's that deep and you can do a really good job 00:12:15 and be super particular like Chad is and you take all those personalities and you mix 'em all together. 00:12:20 If I could have all that in one place and then have a field that's flat, that's tiled that it, it you can get the rid of the water by tile lines 00:12:28 and versus me where I am, I've got surface ditches and every time you've grown across the fidget, like all of that stuff that irrigation fears of will kill you. 00:12:39 Like it will drive you nuts. I mean get track. It does not help my anger issues at all. I'm already mad one day. Yeah. 00:12:47 Like you Get so and use Don't open the door, jump out, let's leave and I can run and just jump out. 00:12:51 What's your tire pressure? What's your tire pressure? But it don't matter. Oh it does matter. 'cause I went through this the other day. 00:12:57 We got had a new tractor that you make fun of. Let and I'm all yours are trash when I no they're not. When I turn on the end, I'm on my phone with you. Oh yeah. 00:13:07 I heard it slamming me to the side and boom, I, I called Lane. I said I don't know what I'm doing wrong 00:13:12 but I've never been on a new ar tractor. This row. Go the shop next day Chris go and said what's your air pressure? 00:13:17 I don't know. Went over and looked 40. We put 'em on 18 and 20. Yeah, I mean I knew guy help you 00:13:23 With some things You can help me with this trust gave you a magic. It's called an air compressor 00:13:32 Tire gauge Look. And still This is my deal. I've been to everyone's farm, contrary to he and mine. Right. And yours is beautiful by the way of all the places. 00:13:43 If I could choose a place to farm, it's crazy. I would choose his place now, now I would choose Kelly's soil. Oh 00:13:50 Yeah. Ain't no way I'd pick Kelly's Hillside. I guy fall down. No, I couldn't get up. Even Kelly's didn't just push it off. Even a 00:13:57 Flat ground. It's so colder Temples, you would think he would be colder than the Midwest. They're not. They got that. They got the trade winds. 00:14:04 You, you're in a perfect area with almost Myco. Would you take Lee Lu's? Would you take Lee Lu's Property? Lee wouldn't even take 00:14:10 his like, like, and, and, and I mean that in the best way possible. You take Lee, like we guys do some ride with him 00:14:17 and you know there's a story about me going up there and re told me like put on all the clothes you got and just reverse the outside layer. 00:14:25 You know, just put 'em all on. Don't even take a bag, just put four layers on, get on the plane and just get the outside layer off. 00:14:30 It's four days worth. So, but Lee was up there and he was like, you know, I said, Lee, how'd you get here? You know, we gotta spend some time. 00:14:35 Like how did you get here? He said, you know, the wagon wheel run off in the Midwest. And he said they fixed the dang thing. 00:14:44 And he said, then they drove here and it fell off again. This is where we're at. And he said, why didn't they just 00:14:47 stop the first time he run off? You know, could have been my, but that's a true story. Like you'll have to ask him about it. Alright, so 00:14:52 Magic wand, you're gonna be my neighbor. Maybe not here in Indiana. Maybe you go go to Illinois 'cause you said 18 feet of soil. 00:14:58 We don't have that. So you're gonna be a Midwestern guy. He's going to get better soil, better weather. 00:15:03 Well, keep in mind, even if I did go out there and I became Midwest, I don't know how to farm there. I'd go to Midwest right now. I'd go broke. 00:15:10 I still wanna re go. Okay. So the one thing is, like I said, I've got to do, got some friends up there, you know, 00:15:16 so I'm a, I'm an expert. You know, I got, I know somebody I can call up here in Midwest and that, so I'm an expert, right? 00:15:21 So you, anyway, but no, you see that and, and you think, oh man, I'd trade for it. Well I would trade for it in the middle of the season, 00:15:28 but the front of the season and end of the season, I wouldn't trade nothing. 'cause their ground just does not warm up. 00:15:34 Like it will not warm up. You know? And then on till end season they cannot get the crop to finish. 00:15:39 You know? And I'm like, man, we can't get it to, we can't slow it down. They can't speed it up, you know? So what 00:15:46 Could do a little lower nighttime temperature? Oh well I don't know. I don't, you ain't got no choice. 00:15:52 You know what you could do? Your yields will go up 20%. I mean, I don't know, you know, one time and I've hate to keep bringing David up 00:16:00 and can picking on him, you know, because he is in the same spot up there with Yeah. With with and, and, 00:16:05 and Kevin's also, Kevin gets in that microclimate up there, you know, and he makes some dang good corn. He is hot. 00:16:10 He gets Kevin's only five and a half, six hours from me. So we, he's way hotter than I am. 00:16:15 Yep. But we, we went racing one time and it was in like August or September we come here and we put a coat on. 00:16:20 I was in Virginia now I put a coat on like that night. Got in August? Yeah, it may have been in September. It don't matter. It ain't happening in the south. Yeah. 00:16:27 Where you and I looked at him, I'm like, I looked at him, I was like, man, don't ever, he said, oh no, 00:16:32 no this don't happen all the time. I'm like, How many thousands of acres of corn do you do you grow every year? 00:16:38 Wait a minute, I'm going somewhere with this. Yep. A pile. Yeah, A pile of corn. Yep. 00:16:44 And I, when I came to your place, I looked at your dryer and I said, where's your dryer? 00:16:49 He said, you said it's right there. And I thought, huh, because their crop races and it dries down so fast, 00:16:59 they'll be harvesting 16% corn like that. I ain't, I've hardly ever in my lifetime shelled 17% corn And putting it be going 95 degree air on. 00:17:11 You know, and it doesn't happen at home. So his size dryer that they got wouldn't work for 800 acre farmer up home. 00:17:18 You notice that enough. You notice that he didn't pick anything that we had. Like he picked nothing. Like he, Hey I got this magic wand. 00:17:26 Exactly. He picked nothing that we did us do. Listen, I, and here's why. 'cause Matt's exactly right with what he chose. 00:17:33 It was real hot nighttime temperature there real hot for 17 days up at home. And I thought I was gonna die this year. 00:17:39 And I called him and I was like, I don't know how you live in the south 'cause this is what the south must be like. 00:17:43 And I'm telling you, it pulled yields away from our corn bayit. Now what it did help is, is we had all that stress 00:17:52 during vegetation on soybeans and it made Our beans. So I give you, I Make pretty good beans, I just can't make coffee. 00:17:59 I gave him a magic wand and he, he trans relocate Kills deer farm. He relocates his farm from Maryland to an ice state. 00:18:07 Let's say I give you a magic wand and you change your cooler nights and soil that actually has organic matter in it, 00:18:14 which is something I've never seen in D County. And then joking aside, but not really. No, No. He is right. I 00:18:20 Give you a magic wand. What do you do with your magic wand? Well, I mean I I I think that again, I think for the farm, 00:18:27 the whole farm purpose, I think I wanna be a hundred percent irrigated. You know, and I wanna, I'll take my dirt like I said, 00:18:34 but you could do that and I could, you don't even imagine what No, not really. 00:18:38 Like you can't even do it. But I mean you, you can't even get enough fields. You can't get enough water. Like you can't even do it. 00:18:44 It's not even something you could do. You It it's not possible. It's them people don't ever farm. 00:18:49 No, because The water's not there. Yeah. The water's not there. See that's the thing we deal with is there's some certain places at 00:18:54 home we're a hundred percent irrigated. Covered this in another area. Yeah. So we have farms, there's one across the road 00:18:59 to some neighbors got across road. I think they drilled 20 holes in it, trying to find water place looks like Swiss cheese, 00:19:05 you know, trying to find water. And you wouldn't think that there's water on one side, the road not on the other. 00:19:09 Like who knows why It's all but Matt's spot on with a cooler temperature if we get the cooler temps. 00:19:14 But let's say, let's say that I got the cooler temps, Matt, well then, then we would, we would have to lose our base. 00:19:21 We'd lose their dollar basis. You know, we can move up north. Well they only gonna get a dollar 50 for the corn and 00:19:27 Violate like to the person. He ain't gonna make no the person watching this that maybe is, you know, 00:19:31 In an I state bound, like y'all are crazy. Well They're, they're probably saying what's he talking about in the south, the A band you do have, 00:19:36 yeah you got some weather problems and god knows you got alligators and poisonous snakes enjoy us with me. 00:19:42 But the one thing you get is you harvest corn August 1st and sell it for a dollar more than the corn 00:19:48 that's coming outta the field behind my house. Yeah, yeah that's true because in Indiana we're missing that early opportunity, you know, steal 00:19:56 BMS down to it. Yeah. None of us are gonna move again because we've gotten good at what we're Doing. We had a 00:20:02 magic wand we change. If you could, let's just go back one more time and say if you pick one thing 00:20:07 with a magic wand, it wouldn't change nothing. I'm like Matt, mine will be cooler nights. I think you could make more cooler nights than you 00:20:13 could with irrigation overall. So you have one thing, but one, One year out of coda nuts you guys will get it 00:20:20 and then you'll have a bumper crop. Yeah, I don't know about that. But anyway, what's your one thing to 00:20:25 You? 12 2012 we had milder and that's the best crop overall. The most money I've ever made in my life. 00:20:34 You could take everything prior to 2012 and add it up and it wasn't gonna be a whole lot more than that one year that we had that weather. 00:20:41 I know what it, I know what it'll do. We put our first pivot in N 12. We had, I didn't even know how 00:20:46 to farm the corners made 40 bushel and the pivot made two 40. Yeah. And we sold it for I think eight 50 00:20:53 or eight 80 or something like that. Paid for the pivot in one year. I thought we oh we Made you wonder why we couldn't figure out, we had 00:21:01 to get some water in them corners too, right? Yeah. Alright, Anything besides location, weather. Is there anything magic wand wise operationally? 00:21:10 Is there anything magic wand that you look at that frustrates you? Okay, we know the guys like you. Okay, so deal or something? 00:21:17 I, for real. Um, if I could magically make things change, I would probably stay in the, the, 00:21:25 the situation that I was in. I was in one of them yearly swings, you know, where I had, I updated my equipment all the time 00:21:31 and I didn't, I kind of got myself out of that and I wish I kind of stayed in that, you know, that's kind of a wish of looking back, man, you 00:21:38 Can't do that here, man. Like we just bashed this man, you, you do that to me outside. 00:21:43 But you can't do it in front the hand. Look at me's. But, But if I did do that, if I had done that 00:21:48 and I stayed in that, you know, maybe I could have spent some more time in the, in the office and not out there wrenching on 00:21:56 something and bust up. Look, let's just, let's just look, let's just look, look at this, look at his, I mean I, that's that'll, 00:22:02 that's what that'll get you. Yeah. That's what that'll get you. Yeah. I don't know. Maybe I'd have better life. 00:22:09 Is there any, is there anything operationally you would, magic wand, I'm put it all in one square block. 00:22:17 Tell Oh yeah, just location, location For, but you're talking about equipment wise, I Don't know. Oh, 00:22:23 anything, anything within the operation. I mean that's a smart one right there. That's because then we talk 00:22:27 so much about efficiencies in agriculture. Hey, when you're, I'll tell you one Kevin's 00:22:33 and he's driving 18 miles to get to a 40 speed or I'll tell you Our biggest property with efficiency in agriculture, you know what it is? Yes 00:22:41 Sir. Us, 00:22:42.245 --> 00:22:42.905 You know what his biggest problem is? Imagine this. Here we go. 00:22:46 We're gonna talk about me. Now imagine this. We're on Loser side man. I wanna sit back over there. Ima imagine this. 00:22:52 Imagine me and me and you spray around the field, right? You come out and you turn into, oh this, 00:22:58 this man right here goes to every end stops, folds a boom up turns around. How Would you like that? Folds 00:23:03 Back out. Takes back off goes every end. No, no sprayer. No. I Tell you what on I Would, if, 00:23:09 if I was a ditch down there, my end, I keep talking. You know what I would be if I was that guy, not the sprayer guy, I quit. 00:23:16 Ain't no way you buy the nicest spray in the world. I'd be like, I don't like you your Sprayer. That is 00:23:20 one of the most aggravating Things. That's the one thing I would change about your 00:23:23 place is like, oh I have, I'd have headlands love to have that smooth headlands figure. 00:23:28 Look, he could take the whales and just push 'em further out in the field and turn around all the time. 00:23:31 No, he wouldn't do that because they're afraid they're gonna lose an inch. No, you gotta see 'cause it's all about quantity. 00:23:37 Quantity. No, you gotta see If the irrigation gets out, why is it you ready? You gotta, oh you can see but we want you 00:23:43 to sew down a hundred feet all the way, way around the field. Do what now? Exactly. 00:23:49 It's just, just money. You can't be doing that. He ain't doing That. I know the feeling because I ain't ever, I got two pivots now 00:23:55 that I've made like strips set the pivots in 'cause I couldn't stand it. Like I calculated like it's four 00:24:00 to five rows, you know, and that long. I'm like, shoot, I gotta make a payment. I ain't leaving no grass out there. 00:24:07 I if I, if I were Chad Henderson and had a magic wand operationally, I would probably think, I would think and just from your perspective, 00:24:15 the encroachment issue is going to be a different thing and I didn't wanna get into that too much and bring up some, but because you're young enough 00:24:24 that you wanna stay in the farming game for 20 years and you got Amazon, There's no way he's made it 20 more years. 00:24:30 Are you kidding me? You got a race car? He's talking about the farm. Not Me. Oh, he said you're gonna 00:24:36 farm 20 more years. That's all I heard. Operational. I said that's probably where I'm just thinking again, 00:24:41 you're the first farm I went to. Am I right? Operationally magic wand is, I mean that's really a problem. 00:24:48 Bet it's a real problem. A real problem. You know what video me and you done, we can really can't talk about the whole bunch. 00:24:53 We glad that thing didn't get out when we come with them. GMOs. You know, we got into there 00:24:56 and you know, everybody's gonna just like, let's all go out there and have to raise our own food. You know, that's what is gonna happen around me 00:25:02 because we got two Amazons and I'm not bashing Amazon and Toyotas. I mean it's progress, right? We all gotta have progress. 00:25:08 Like we gotta have a place to build. Well they're gonna, we just, we just need to even it out. It don't even be all in my place. We should took so 00:25:13 Arkansas, they're gonna try it though. We need Matt. I would encourage it. You know how many Amazons you can build on 00:25:20 that big wide open flat ground that ain't got no organic matter anyway. There is Never, You can't build 00:25:25 roads outta that shirt that you fall. You can't put concrete. There's A reason that nobody's doing that in de County. 00:25:29 There's no humans there to buy the stuff from Toyota or we Don't need humans that we just need a depot house. 00:25:35 You know, understand that the rail can move things because like we have Mississippi River, we got rail. Let's just do that Matt, me, you'll just build us a Toyota. 00:25:44 Dude. I'm in. Hold on. Let him go. Calculate it out. Let come back. Be like about ain't gonna work. I'm gonna call Kelly. Kelly be like, 00:25:54 I'm in he and then we go. Yep. And we we, Yeah. I guess one thing out there that, you know, 00:26:00 I threw this question, I know it's a little out there, but I think everybody that watches this discussion, they've got in their head 00:26:06 what they would magic wand on their farm. And I think too many people, you could say magic wand and oh, make myself $10 million. 00:26:12 No, we never said that. Magic wand your farm. Yeah, we still gonna work every day. Wanna do the same thing. I'll tell you something. 00:26:18 I mean, you take Johnny Bra, he's in the same situation I am. I mean he's next, right? Right. 00:26:24 I mean Kevin, Kevin's the same situation. There Is reverse out of this. You've heard this a million times. 00:26:29 Be careful what you wish for. You ain't running. You know, I, I would probably you ain't, if I was in control of the weather, everybody be screwed. 00:26:38 If I was in control of the markets, Everybody, he'd be like, we're gonna pick one more day. All y'all ain't got y'all's cutting out. 00:26:43 We're gonna get a rain because I gotta get my 20 acres weed Up. It's the other one. 00:26:47 It's the other one. To Chad point out, you know when you start changing, because most people don't think that way. 00:26:53 You change this, eating this up the entire ecosystem. It used to be that TV show, fantasy island where people would go there and live on de It's 00:27:02 The plane, the plane, bus, the plane. You ever remember how they all amended? They went there to become, I always wanted 00:27:08 to be a major league baseball pitcher. And it turns out their life was a Disaster after They became a major league. 00:27:13 'cause it changed, you know, everything. So the idea is be careful what you with that's like Being rich. You know, being 00:27:17 rich would be the worst thing happened to me. 'cause I'd be sorry and probably I wouldn't, I'd change part Time. No, we we'd help you with your money. 786 00:27:24.005 --> 00:27:24.085 You wouldn't be rich long. Well, Yeah, I'm just saying, you know, we believe 00:27:26 It. You're On the wrong side. You gotta get on that side again. All right. Nobody's gonna get a magic wand. 00:27:30 But you know what, it's a heck of a interesting contemplation, isn't it? Well, You know, it makes you grateful for what you, but, 00:27:36 But you, you see We came full circle. We want this. Then we figured out we really, we don't want that because it's gonna change this. So it's full circle 00:27:43 And we're gonna stay right where at, hey full circle and we going. Alright Guys, I love the conversation 00:27:49 and I hope you did too. You don't have a magic Wand, but you know what you do have, you have a spot right here at this table to Grandville 00:27:54 and people like my friend Chad, Matt and Temple, where you can come here parse up for drink and talk about farm stuff. 00:28:01 Real conversations with real farmers that have been through real life just like you.
